Title: Lobster Stomp

Procedure

Pass out smocks, paintbrushes, paper,

googley

eyes and cups of water to wash off the paintbrushes.Have tubs and water of paint over plastic wrap and explain to the children that they need to bring their pieces of paper over to the paint. Have children place foot into the paint, and then on the paper to create the lobsters body. When done, have children step in tub of water to wash off foot. Have the children go back to their tables and explain to them that the teacher needs to paint their hands. When they are ready, paint their hands and have them put handprints on the paper to create the claws.

Have children go to the sink to wash off their hands when they are done.

When they return to their table, give each child two googley eyes and elmers

glue. Allow them to glue the eyes on wherever they want to.

Allow the pictures to dry, and then let the children display them wherever they would like. Slide5

Developmental Objectives

Cognitive: Children will be using cognitive skills when trying to figure out where to put their footprint and handprints.

Motor Skills: Children will be using their fine motor skills when picking up the paintbrushes and painting their hands. They will use their gross motor skills when they lift up their legs to place their foot in the tub of paint and then when they place it down on the paper. Slide6

Procedure

Pass out smocks, white paper, water colors, paintbrushes, and cups of water for paintbrushes

Have each child water color 2 to 3 pieces of paper however they would like.

When paper is dry, pass out scissors.Have the children cut out one heart for every family member, and have them write the family members name on the heart.Have each child write one thing they love about each family member on their hearts.Make sure the children bring their hearts home and to give them to their family members. Slide9

Motor Skills: Children are using their fine motor skills when using scissors, painting and writing names as well as notes on their paper hearts.

Emotional Skills: Children are using their emotional skills when thinking about one thing they love about each family member. Slide10

Title: Patriotic Footprints

Category: Tempera Paint

Materials2 or 3 pieces of large white butcher paperRed white and blue paint

Tubs of water to wash off hands and feetNewspaper to lay around butcher paperSlide12

Procedure

Have the class get into three separate groups.

Once in groups, pass out large butcher paper, tubs of red paint over newspaper, tubs of water to wash off feet, cups of white and blue paint, paintbrushes and cups of water for paintbrushes.

Have children walk across the butcher paper to create the red stripes of the flag.When they are done and their feet are washed, have them paint a blue square in the top left corner. When dry, have the group create the stars out of white handprints. When the three flags are done, have each child say one reason why they love where they live. Slide13

Social Skills: Children will be using social skills when they are in their groups as well as when they are saying one reason why they love where they live.

Cultural Skills: Children will be using their cultural skills when creating the flag because they know that this flag is an American Flag. Slide14

Rain

Title: Let’s Play in the Rain

Category: Chalk

MaterialsOutside space to draw with chalkVarious colors of chalkBuckets of water or hoseSlide16

Procedure

Gather the children in a large group and take them outside if the weather permits.

Pass out the boxes of chalk and let them know that once their drawings are complete, they will be washed away.

Have children draw anything that they would like on the sidewalk.When they are done, wash away the drawings with either a hose or bucket of water. Let the children watch and see what happens to the chalk as it “rains.”If they want, they can create a new drawing when the activity is done.Slide17

Cognitive Skills: Children will use cognitive skills when watching the chalk and water react, as well as when thinking about what to draw.

Emotional Skills: Children will use their emotional skills when watching their drawing wash away, and learn to control them.Slide18
