New linen machines will be put into service the week of February 16, 2015.

The two small linen carts on the north and south sides of the ED’s will be removed. The small linen cart in the Fast Track area will remain and be stocked by the linen team.
TriPoint’s alEx Exchange Cart will go where the current linen cart is. This will be an 80 inch wide machine. (larger than the existing cart)The blanket warmer will be moved to a more central location in the ED next to the wall of the med room.
The refrigerator will move to where the water/ice machine is currently.
The water/ice machine will move into the nutrition room on the counter.
TriPoint and West ED’s will both have an alEx SD (single dispense) machine for squad linen and alEx Exchange Carts for inside the ED’s.
Both alEx SD machines will go where the existing EMS linen carts are now.Slide3
This will significantly reduce the amount of linen being taken from Lake Health thus saving the organization
$$$$$$$.
The national average is 5.5 lbs. of linen used per patient per visit. Our average is over 6 lbs. By only using the linen needed, we can reduce this number to below the national average and save money on processing the linen also.
A site visit was done at a hospital in Toledo that utilizes these machines and their average linen used per patient was 3.2 lbs.
As a team, we can save the organization money. Slide4
