Nursery Glow & Glitter Autumn Term 2014 Miss L Copp

Mathematical DevlopmentPlay with and explore a range of transparent and opaque 2D shapes on a light box.Count items such as glass beads, baubles, spoons, buttons, shiny coins and mirrored tiles.Play with torches of different sizes to ‘measure’ how far different torches cast light.Investigate ways of making a shadow bigger and smaller, using mathematical language, bigger, smaller, nearer, further away etc…Explore parcels and boxes of different sizes, building towers, comparing sizes, putting smaller boxes inside larger boxes.Take part in a star hunt , ordering numbered stars found.Listen to, read and recite number stories and rhymes.Explore patterns and shapes using mirrors, baubles, glass beads etc…

PSESetting of class rules and expectations of behaviour.Take part in cooperative play and sharing activities.Look at people taking part in festivals from different countries.Look at birthday candles, Christmas candles, and fireworks for bonfire night.Take part of traditions of Christmas as part of the school and community. Take part in decision making and choices, including philosophy activities.

During the project pupils will learn about: Materials that are shiny and materials that are not.Material that reflect light and those that do not.Properties of man-made and natural materials, in particular those that shine, glitter, twinkle, glow and reflect.Making shadows.Understand that using light is important in a range of different celebrations.The tradition of Christmas.Mark making, drawing and emergent writing .The welsh language using words and phrases, across a range of experiences both indoor and outdoor.

Language, Literacy and Communication.Oracy – Retell and talk about initial experiences, recalling and sequencing events.Talk about, ask questions and listen to discussions about personal experiences of celebrations, using items and photos from home.Follow instructions and directions including positional language.Use mirrors to explore and talk about faces and features.Reading - Listen to a range of stories, rhymes and poems.Use a range of prompts, puppets, figures and pictures to enhance the story.Re-tell and act out stories using shadow puppets and toys.Listen to stories on the theme of light, talk about the stars, sun, moon, magic lanterns etc.Listen to stories about different types of celebrations that are celebrated using light. Display the resources.Writing – Mark making with glittery pens and markers, textured paper and materials.Emergent writing in quiet peaceful fairy lit areas.Describing words for mysterious treasure chests and glittering treasures.Create large scale pictures, using marks, letters and words.Create murals using fluorescent paints, brushes, brushes, rollers.Write instructions to decorate a Christmas tree using photos.Make own story books.
