Team MembersLead(s): Erin Kipp DO, Joshua Barker MDFaculty Advisor: Admir Seferovic, MDProject Champion: Robert Tompkins, MDTeam Members: Caitlin Pekowski MD, William Ogelsby MDCase for ChangeAdvanced Directives are an important part of patient care. Due to the COVID19 pandemic, there has been an increased need for discussions about advanced directives and code status. It is important that residents can have these discussions with patients and family members. After discussion with multiple family medicine residents, we discovered that most were not comfortable discussing advanced directives with their patients as they did not feel confident in their knowledge of this subject. Also, many residents were unsure of the Family Medicine Clinic process of certifying an advanced directive once the paperwork was completed.Intervention and ImprovementThe team had discussions with multiple palliative care physicians, community health workers, and researched on the Texas Health and Human Resources website where we compiled information into a 1- hour teaching session. After the teaching session, a post-teaching quiz was given to re-evaluate the residents confidence and knowledge of Advanced Directives and the Family Medicine Clinic Advanced Directive process.
