Knowledge of risk
Does the student know the requirements for being successful?
Placement test is given on the 1
st
day
Individual Learning Plan (ILP) is given to students in the Language and Technology Center (LTC) with recommendations from instructorsSlide6
During the first couple of days of LTC, students complete personal goals forms.
Instructors use this as a guide to remind students throughout the 4 week session of goals set by students.
LTC is 5 days a week: 3 days using ILP and 2 days focused on personal goals.

OEC
(also known as syllabus)
Shows
students…
What will be studied in class
What books will be used
What students will be able to do when the course is done (learning objectives)
How students will be graded
*Note
Instructors bring out the OEC at least one day before quizzes and whenever it is felt that a reminder to
Ss
is needed.
Ss
are told to keep their OEC in their notebooks and are expected to show it when the instructor is referring to it. Slide9
Example of reinforcement
After going through the Student Academic Manual, students are given 15 min with a partner to search for items within the book. Slide10
Final Grade Report
Comments are given to students
Words of encouragement about the session
Areas that still need improvement in the level
Skills evaluation
High (H), At level (A), Below Level (L)
Individual Learning Plan (ILP)
Instructors give 3 recommendations for the next session in LTCSlide11
Monitoring and warning system
Can timely and accurate warning be given?
At the beginning of each session, instructors are given a list of students who have not passed
and why.
They are asked to let the AD know IMMEDIATELY of any concerns
. Slide12
Communication of risk level
Are the warnings understood?

Response
capabilityAre people prepared and ready to react?
There is a level of consistency needed by all instructors, Academic and Center Directors.
Tracking students success is the same in all classes
When a student “complains” at the end of a session, often times it is because the final grades received are a surprise to them.
(Instructors) Pulling out the OEC throughout the session and giving advisory letters is crucial. (Admin) Making the time to formally and informally talk with students about their progress.
When students receive grades, the teacher should be able to say “You earned this grade because of…” students should not be surprised. Slide14
