If so, perhaps you’re using your conditioner wrong. Conditioners are great for adding moisture to your locks, making your hair smooth, shiny and more manageable. There isn’t a ‘right way’ to wash your hair, but there sure is a right way to get the most out of your conditioner. Using the proper techniques will make all the difference to the health of your hair. Trim, Trim, Trim
Getting a haircut should not feel like the end of the world, but whether you like it or not, a trim every 6-8 weeks is really good for your hair. Getting regular trims keep your tips looking healthy and prevent split ends from spreading and damaging more hair, which could cause you to chop off even more hair down the road… After a quick walk through the hair care isle at your local store, something caught your eye. In fact, you’re noticing it on more and more bottles of shampoo and conditioner: A sign or sticker on the bottle that says “SULFATE FREE”.
But what is a sulfate? Why is it important that your hair care products are sulfate free?
Sulfates are chemicals used as cleansing agents, and until recently, could be found in quite a lot of bottles of shampoo and conditioner. The two main types of sulfates used in hair care products are Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate. Once you decide to grow your hair, it can feel like forever before you actually notice a difference in your length. And when you cut or trim your ends, somehow it feels even longer for your hair to grow back to its previous length and then surpass it. Unfortunately, there isn’t a magic lotion that will give you long flowing locks overnight. The key to growing long, healthy hair is patience, and a little bit of TLC. How many different brands of anti-dandruff shampoo have you used in your lifetime? It’s not likely you’ve been using the same product since you were born, because your hair is ever changing. With that in mind, of course its difficult to find the perfect shampoo for your locks… there are so many to choose from. When they all offer the same result, how do you pick just one? You can’t try them all, so you’ll have to trust the brand and trust their reviews. Your hair needs a surprising amount of maintenance in order to truly thrive, but your daily hair care routine could be causing more damage than you think. If you use blow-dryers, straighteners, elastic hair bands, too much dry shampoo and occasionally brush wet hair, your hair could be in trouble. Hair damage occurs through friction, heat and harsh chemical treatments, like colouring. Dandruff is a condition of the scalp that causes flakes of skin to appear, and it is surprisingly more common than you think. While it typically affects more men than women, one of every five people suffer from this scalp condition. Despite common belief, dandruff has nothing to do with poor hygiene, but flakes may be more visible if your hair is not looked after properly. While the exact cause of dandruff is unknown, it can be hard to treat, but it is not impossible to get rid of. There are some people who wash their hair every single day, and others who only wash their hair once a week. Why is it so different from person to person? Is there a trade secret to keeping your hair fresh and healthy between washes? Not exactly, but there are a few tips and tricks to follow that will help! Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference. Run your hands through your hair from root to tip, but pay close attention to your ends. How do they feel? Are they soft and smooth, or are they rough, frizzy and split? If your ends are on the damaged side, your hair is in immediate need of some hydration. If you don’t know what a “sulfate” is by now, your hair is in serious trouble. Put simply, sulfates are the key ingredient to making a shampoo bubbly. The two kinds of sulfates you’re most likely to find in your hair care products are sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate. When used in shampoo, sulfates cleanse all kinds of dirt, oil, product build-up and dead skin cells from your scalp, and washes it away with water, taking away the nutrients your hair needs to thrive. It’s time to take a closer look at your favourite products in order to make the best choices for your hair, and switch to a sulfate free shampoo. You don’t need to have a celebrity hairstylist to achieve beautiful hair! In fact, if you change up your hair care routine, you’ll have healthier, stronger and shinier hair in no time. From simple tips for natural hair repair to the perfect hair cleansing shampoo, here are 10 tips for natural shining and softer hair. How many different shampoos are you currently using? And no, different scents don’t count. If there is only a single bottle of shampoo in your shower, your hair is in big trouble and that care routine of yours is in desperate need of a revamp. For your hair to truly thrive, you should be alternating between at least two shampoos: a regular shampoo and a purifying shampoo. Purifying your hair is also known as detoxing, and it’s super important for your scalp. What you might not know is that it’s different from simply washing your hair with regular shampoo, and if you haven’t done it before, you’re in for a shocking surprise Do you remember when you first started washing your hair? Chances are, you wash your hair because you’ve always done it, but never really thought much about why. That’s ok, but if you truly want beautiful, healthy hair, it’s not as simple as wash, condition, repeat. A hair care routine needs to be delicately crafted to suit your hair colour, texture and length. In the end, your wash schedule, the products you use and way you style your hair will make your hair care routine as unique as you are. If you aren’t sure where to start, or where you can improve your hair care routine, don’t stress. There are so many small changes you can make to improve the health of your hair long term, but to start seeing those changes today, you should get your hands on a restorative shampoo or clarifying shampoo.
