No deep rooted vegetation holding shoreline in place Wind and wave action reducing shoreline and causing erosion Inviting waterfowl access Before Sadly, this is the condition of not just this stretch of shoreline, but most all of Maple Island’s Shoreline.
Paw Paw became the 2013 demonstration site for the Certified Natural Shoreline Professional Training P rogram Paw Paw worked with the Michigan Natural Shoreline Partnership
Those attending the training, passing a written test, and working on the demonstration project would become a state certified Natural Shoreline Professional. CNSP project selected Paw Paw as one of two statewide Training sites and as the demonstration (installation) for both training sites. CNSP provided 3-day classroom education and training which included participants doing natural shoreline designs.
Natural Shoreline Project Begins! Pre installation included spaying the 200+ foot site to kill current vegetation and getting a rock in place for access to the waters edge.
Getting ready for the two training groups to work on their part of the installation project included bringing all of materials to the Island.
Following their written tests, the installation project begins with instructions, chasing waterfowl from the site, getting all going on the actual work.
