CONGRATULATIONS

DR. LINA AGUIRRE and ALBUQUERQUE NM VAMC ENDOCRINOLOGY TEAM, CHAI Award Winners!!Nominated by: Julie Foster, PHA, Pharmacist, Formulary Manager, Albuquerque, NM VAMC Dr. Lina Aguirre, PSM, Chief Endocrinology Albuquerque, NM VAMCThe Albuquerque, NM, Endocrinology department (led by Dr. Lina Aguirre) identified early in the COVID-19 outbreak that frequent blood sugar checks for patients were going to be problematic for COVID+ patients - from both an employee safety and PPE utilization perspective. Our endocrinology department acted quickly and started a pilot program using CGMS on the inpatient setting to facilitate BG monitoring, working closely with lab, nursing, and pharmacy to coordinate. Many sites have started taking similar approaches, but I want to acknowledge our endo team for how swiftly they recognized and responded to this change in practice.
