They w on’t let evil, bullies or low expectations keep them from doing the right thing. Join us and cheer for some of the pluckiest characters you ’ll ever met ! Encore Stage & Stu dio is delighted to announce our 2012/2013 Season. All performances and auditions will be held at Thomas Jefferson Community Theatre -- 125 South Old Glebe Road, Arlington VA 22204. Encore strives to educate and entertain by offering five productions each season that are by and for young people, and through enriching classes and workshops with qualified, enthusiastic teaching artists. Participating in live theatre builds problem - solving skills, teamwork, creativity, literacy, and self - confidence. We are cultivating the next generation of active and engaged art lovers. Encore Stage & Studio’s 2012/2013 Season and Dates:  The Hobbit October 26 – November 4, 2012 By Patricia Gray. Based on the classic by J.R.R. Tolkien. Take an exciting journey through Middle Earth with an ordinary hobbit , Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo and a throng of dwarfs embark on an adventure to reclaim important treasure, encountering goblins, trolls, and even a dragon along the way. But, as t he great wizard Gandalf advises, “Be sure not to stray off the path!” Recommended fo r ages 4 and up. Auditions for students 9 – 18 years old to be held September 6 and 7, 2012.  Honk, Jr. January 11 – 19, 2013 Book by Anthony Drewe. Music by George Stiles. Lyrics by Anthony Drewe. Based on Hans Christian Andersen's The Ugly Duckling. Ugly — an awkward, odd - looking duck, separated from family — is desperately searching for his way back home. Along the way, Ugly overcomes challenging situations, makes unforgettable friends, and finds love in many forms. Be there as Ugly discovers that he is truly beautiful, both inside and out. Recommended for ages 4 and up. Auditions for students 9 – 18 years old to be October 29 and 30, 2012. Optiona l pre - audition workshop on October 27, 2012 (Fee $50).  Big Bad February 22 – March 3, 2013 By Alec Strum. Breaking news! Encore brings you live coverage of the trial of the Big Bad Wolf. Have you ever wondered what happened to him after the story ended? Mr. Wolf is in the defendant’s seat, and the plaintiffs, represented by the Fairy Godmother, take the witness stand one by one and tell their traumatizing stories of their encounters with Mr. Wolf. Is he guilty or innocent? Recommended for ages 4 and up. Auditions for students 9 – 18 years old to be held December 17 and 18, 2012. Based on the novel by Amanda Brown and the Metro - Goldwyn - Mayer motion picture. Bubbly and bright Elle Woods never takes “no” for an answer. So when her boyfriend dumps her for so meone “serious,” Elle upgrades her signature pink for Harvard crimson! This Hollywood blockbuster turned musical sensation will have you dancing in the aisles. Encore Stage & Studio, “Theatre by kids, for kids of all ages!” was founded in 1967, as the Children’s Theatre of Arlington. En core Stage & Studio’s mission is to build a lifelong appreciation for live theater by involving young people in all aspects of theater arts -- onstage, backstage, in the classroom, and in the audience. To date, Encore has produced over 175 shows. Last seaso n, over 200 young people participated as c ast or crew members and almost 10 ,000 people enjoyed Encore’s performances. Today, Encore has grown to include our production season and school year education classes and summer programs. Encore presents five fully realized productions each year under the guidance and direction of experienced theater professionals. Encore is unique in offering dramatic productions in which every actor and every behind – the - scenes technician is a young person under 18 years of age. Ac t III, our summer production program, casts youth ages 15 and older, as well as college students and adult community members. Encore’s multi - age structure encourages mentoring and role modeling between older and younger participants. Our production opportu nities are provided to participants at no cost.
