Growing Grumpy or Gracious? Deuteronomy 32-34

Deuteronomy 32: 48  the Lord told Moses, 49  “Go up into the Abarim Range to Mount Nebo in Moab, across from Jericho, and view Canaan, the land I am giving the Israelites as their own possession. 50  There on the mountain that you have climbed you will die and be gathered to your people, just as your brother Aaron died on Mount Hor and was gathered to his people.

51  This is because both of you broke faith with me in the presence of the Israelites at the waters of Meribah Kadesh in the Desert of Zin and because you did not uphold my holiness among the Israelites. 52  Therefore, you will see the land only from a distance; you will not enter the land I am giving to the people of Israel.”

Numbers 20: 2   Now there was no water for the community, and the people gathered in opposition to Moses and Aaron. 3   They quarreled with Moses and said, “If only we had died when our brothers fell dead before the Lord!... 7   The Lord said to Moses, 8   “Take the staff, and you and your brother Aaron gather the assembly together. Speak to that rock before their eyes and it will pour out its water….

10   [So Moses] and Aaron gathered the assembly together in front of the rock and Moses said to them, “Listen, you rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock?” 11   Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank.

Numbers 20: 12   But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them.”

Deuteronomy 31: 1   Then Moses went out and spoke these words to all Israel: 2   “I am now a hundred and twenty years old and I am no longer able to lead you. The Lord has said to me, ‘You shall not cross the Jordan.’ 3   The Lord your God himself will cross over ahead of you.

7   Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the presence of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you must go with this people into the land that the Lord swore to their ancestors to give them, and you must divide it among them as their inheritance. 8   The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Each of us will grow grumpy or grow gracious

Psalm 90: 1 Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. 2   Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

Psalm 90: 1 Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. 2   Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. 3   You turn people back to dust, saying, “Return to dust, you mortals.” 4  A thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night. 5   Yet you sweep people away in the sleep of death— they are like the new grass of the morning: 6  In the morning it springs up new, but by evening it is dry and withered.

Psalm 90 11 If only we knew … the power of your anger. 12 Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

When we see other people as God sees them we will love and respect them When we see stuff as God sees is we will steward it wisely and hold it loosely When we see ourselves as God sees us we will be able to accept and love ourselves in a healthy way When we see our time as God sees it we will give it to Him for His purposes

Lord, help me see as you see and do as you say
