Small Works Assignment

For

this project you need to think small!

You

will create a series

of three, five or seven

pieces, none of which may be over five inches (in any direction) in size.

You

may use any medium for this assignment.

Think

in terms of a shared theme or concept that relates your pieces; random little images will not read as a

cohesive series.

Remember that working at a smaller scale creates a different experience in both crafting and viewing an artwork.

Consider the following:

Are there specific subjects that might lend themselves well to this size work?

Are there any media limitations to consider for small-scale pieces?

How do small images/pieces affect the viewer’s perception of the piece?

Can a small-scale artwork carry conceptual weight? Convey significance

?

Following: examples of small scale pieces by some contemporary artists.
