2. MissionThe Academy of Health Sciences provides students the opportunity to explore health science technologies and medical careers that prepare them with a 21st-century foundation for post-secondary education and workforce readiness. Members of the academy will participate in experiences that will aid in future career and college endeavors. 

3. PurposeThe purpose of The Academy of Health Sciences is to educate students in the fields of health, physical education, and medicine, as well as to prepare students for these career fields.  In addition, students will serve as ambassadors for the academy by attending field trips, organizing healthful events and visiting businesses involved in the fields of health and medicine.  

4. visionTo prepare students for a career in the health and medical industry through rigorous academic curriculum, career awareness, exploration, and preparation. The academy will provide an interdisciplinary academic program (Health, Science, Physical Education and FACS) to inspire approximately 44-48 students in their pursuit to successfully complete the coursework required for college/university matriculation.

7. 2-year and 4-year TracksThe 2-year track would service students interested in careers, such as, Athletic Training, Health Education, Physical Therapy Assistant, X-ray Tech, Personal Training, Radiologist, Dental Hygienist, and Recreation, etc.The 4-year track would service students interested in medicine and Physicians, Nursing, Registered Dietitian, Physical Therapist, Surgeon, etc.Students would be able to take classes in either track once they are a part of the academy.The four departments involved would teach courses that fit into both tracks stated.

15. Changes to current courses for the academyAnatomy and Physiology CAP – Change currently run A&P course to a college accredited course. Zero to few changes needed. Botany CAP – Change currently run Botany course to a college accredited course. Could possibly add a lab component to the class.Nutrition, Health and Fitness- Previously offered by the FACS Department, would need to be approved as part of the secondary curriculum. This class will focus on nutrients and their relation to specific careers under our academy umbrella.

16. Proposed new courses for the academyCourse of study which applies many disciplines of scientific study such as biology/anatomy, chemistry, and physics. Possible career opportunities include: medical examiner, crime scene investigator, clinical technologist,forensic anthropologist.

18. Proposed new course for the academyNatural and Human Disasters – course of study that explores the physical causes, effects and social consequences of such events. Several recent natural disasters are examined in depth to analyze the processes responsible for them and how that understanding translates into public policy and governmental response, including those of first responders and FEMA.

19. Sports Medicine: This course will provide students with an overview of the field of sports medicine. Students will learn basic anatomy and physiology concerning athletic injuries and will practice principles and skills of athletic training. Students will gain exposure in working with athletes, coaches and athletic injuries at our high school.Proposed new course for the academy

CAP PE1/CAP PE 2CAP PE 1: - Students would come out with certifications in: - First Aid - CPR - AED - LifeguardingCAP PE 2: - Students would have the opportunity to use low/high elements: - Low Elements: - Swinging log, spider web, triangle tension traverse, trust falls - High Elements: - Two line bridge, Dangle Duo, Multi vine, Burma Bridge, Catwalk, Wild Woozy, Rock climbing Proposed new courses for the academy

21. Internships:Students will take part in an Internship Course called CEIP. Students will work with an advisor to create a portfolio called a BEP and connect with various schools, hospitals and/or businesses to ensure themselves an internship in their field of interest. This could be paid or unpaid.
