Photosynthesis Rate Results: Transcript

Ms Albu B Block Photosynthesis Lab Findings We tested the photosynthetic rate of leaf discs of spinach control to arugula experimental under a 100 watt lamp Spinach had a higher rate of photosynthesis. Aerobic cell respiration:. glucose + oxygen .  carbon dioxide + water + energy. 3.7.1 Define . cell respiration. . Cell respiration is the controlled release of energy . from organic compounds in cells to form ATP.. Leaf Disc Assay. F Block. Photosynthesis Lab. . An Educational Slide Created By Squade. . (Andy, Alex, Colin, Jordyn). Summary of Findings . In this lab, the effects of plant photosynthesis were investigated by comparing the rates of photosynthesis of two plants, spinach and kale. The rate of photosynthesis was measured the number of leaf cutouts on the surface per minute. These floating leaf cutouts show that oxygen, a product of photosynthesis is produced. We found that the rate of photosynthesis for the spinach leaves was 8.6 cutouts per minutes, 1.4 less than that of the kale leaves (10 cutouts per minute.) This difference could be a result the different amounts of light absorbing chlorophyll present in each leaf, or a difference in vascular tissue sizes, which may affect the plant’s ability to absorb water for photosynthesis.. Aspen Trees had the highest level of bark chlorophyll . Leaf Disc Assay. A Block. Spinach (Control). Arugula. Number of Discs Floating. Time. (seconds). Number of . Discs Floating. Time. Oxygen is a by-product (leftover, waste product). Energy now stored in the sugar. Ms. . Albu. E. Block. Results . -. The effect of leaf type on rate of leaf disk floats (Spinach vs. Asian Pear). Hypothesis: If oxygen is removed from the discs of spinach leaves and asian pear leaves, then the spinach discs will photosynthesize at a faster rate than the asian pear discs will.. What is the . ideal combination of factors . for the . maximum . rate of photosynthesis? . enough light. . enough carbon dioxide. . ideal temperature . (not too hot or cold). How is the rate affected if one of these factors is . Photosynthesis. - a process used by plants and other autotrophs to convert the light energy captured from the sun into chemical energy that can be used to fuel the organism’s activities. . *It is the way plants make food! . Lauren . Kendle. Winter Ecology. Spring 2012. Background Information. An analysis of 60 species indicated that there were photosynthetic processes in the . bark. Aspen Trees had the highest level of bark chlorophyll . The light-dependent reaction. The light-independent reaction. Required practical 7: . Use of chromatography to investigate the pigments isolated from leaves of different plants, . eg. , leaves from shade-tolerant and shade-intolerant plants or leaves of different colours.. How temperature affects the rate of photosynthesis? Key terms- Photosynthesis is the process when plant make food, using carbon dioxide, water and sunlight energy. Respiration is the process when glucose in living in living cells are converted in carbon dioxide, water and releasing energy. Remember…. ATP is cellular energy. Energy from the . chemical bonds of ATP . is released when the bond between the 2. nd. and 3. rd. phosphate groups is . broken. .. It then becomes . adenosine . rubiee. photosynthesis. What is photosynthesis?. The process of converting solar energy into chemical energy.. Can use only water and carbon dioxide to create sugars = chemical energy.. Responsible for removal of ~ 200 billion tons of C from the atmosphere yearly.. 8. Topic: . B5 Photosynthesis. Key Learning Points:. Key Diagrams:. Key Questions:. 1. Photosynthesis. A chemical process used by plants to make glucose and oxygen from carbon. dioxide and water, using light energy. Oxygen is produced as a by-product of photosynthesis. .
