Degree apprenticeshipsMust last a minimum of one year and degree apprenticeships in particular will last longer, typically up to four years, though there is no fixed maximum duration. As with all Apprenticeships, degree apprenticeships are funded through Government and the employer and the apprentice is paid a wage.

Degree apprenticeships are the latest model to be developed as part of higher apprenticeship standards, seeing apprentices achieving a full bachelor’s or master’s degree as a core component of the apprenticeship. Slide11

The Careers and Enterprise CompanyDecember 2014, the Secretary of State for Education announced the Careers & Enterprise Company which was incorporated in February 2015It is an employer led body set up to unlock the potential of Britain’s young people by strengthening interactions between employers and schools. Its role is to be an enabler, supporting and sharing the good work already out there. It will focus on ‘what works’, measuring impact and commissioning high quality research.“The company will use relationships with employer to break down barriers between schools and colleges on the one hand and employers on the other, and increase the level of employer input into careers inspiration and enterprise in all schools and colleges.

It will do this partly through a network of advisers who will broker strong and extensive links at local level. It will assist schools and colleges in choosing effective careers and enterprise organisations to partner with.

It will stimulate more and better activity in areas where the current provision is poorest”

Nicky

Morgan, Secretary of State for EducationSlide15

National Careers ServiceThe National Careers Service provides information, advice and guidance to help individuals make decisions on learning, training and work opportunities. The service offers confidential and impartial advice. This is supported by qualified careers advisers. As well as the delivery of careers information, advice and guidance for adults, an element of the National Careers Service contract requires them to provide inspirational online resources and activities for young people and adults so that they can be inspired and informed about the world of work and to provide a brokerage service to establish sustainable links between schools, colleges, employers and other inspirational organisations within the local community.
