WHY BLOG?

Slide10

Why we came to do blogging with our classes:

Pamela:

Took an Informal Writing class where we blogged and saw the difference it made for me as a student.

AP class in 2010 - need students to write weekly, beyond the class decided to try blogs = success

2nd semester tried it with a -1 class = success

Next step: integrate with weaker writers (i.e. -2 class).

Ted:

Saw the success students were having with blogging.

Started a Photography class in 2013 - blogging was a perfect way to organize, display, and share feedback within the class while incorporating writing.

Saw an opportunity to do cross-curricular work with ELA.

Next step: integrate more into ELA 10 classes next semester

“No matter what happens, never lose this voice of yours … I have never been able to define what it means to incorporate one’s voice within a piece, up until this moment in my life.”

“I am speechless … thank you so much for your words, you have no idea how much it has impacted me.”

CLASS BLOG - ELA GRADE 12 - 30-1

hunniblog302015.edublogs.org

I really enjoyed this piece, and the ways in which it allowed me to see you for more than you show in class. As I was reading your work, I could see that you were opening up and becoming someone who is much different than the guy I see in the halls of FFCA. I wish that I could see you display this character everyday, instead of acting the way that everyone assumes you will act.

As far as your writing, I would suggest that you connect your opinions on friendship more closely to yourself personally. I would like to know why you have come to this understanding and what events in your life have lead you to believe such things.

Sincerely, Madison.

Madison – Your comment really stuck in my mind after reading it. I’m glad this blog was able to change your opinion on me for the better as I know my reputation over the years with my friends may not be the best. Also, I will look to provide more personal experiences which lead me to my opinions for my remaining blogs. Thanks for the input!

CLASS SOCRATIC DISCUSSION in REPLIES

Siddharth:

… In Creon’s very human lens of perception, is Antigone not a devil of Fate? Is she not a representation of destruction. Think: Everywhere she goes, Antigone catalyzes destruction and ruin. Why do we view her as noble and ethereal when we see the torment she leaves upon the humans in this play?

Claire:

In reply to Siddarth:

From the last question you posed in regards to this discussion, I believe the way in which we view Antigone, or Creon, or the entire message of the play itself, boils down to perspective. Perspective, I believe, plays a major role in a lot of factors regarding this piece – whether Antigone is a heroine or a tormentor, whether The Chorus were God(s) of some sort or a representation of Creon’s conscience, and so on...

Slide37

Timi

:

What caught me the most watching the entire production was the pace. I supposed it was not just the pace, but how that pace affected the atmosphere of the whole production. Though the play itself was long, I couldn’t help but become encaptured in the haste and speed at which everything was occurring.

Carmen:

We talked in the Socratic discussion about how their love may also be a way to rebel against the constraints of Romeo and Juliet’s family feud. While I believe this to be partially true, I don’t believe it is the main construct that Shakespeare was trying to get across. I would offer that – in contrast to “how it can turn war into peace” – Shakespeare was perhaps trying to demonstrate how love may be the catalyst for loss.

Feature Blogger: Summaiya

Summaiya recently immigrated to Canada 2 years ago, speaking very broken English. But she was an avid reader and writer in her native Punjabi language. Creative Writing and blogging has built her confidence in English.

I have certainly come a long way since I started blogging. It has given me the confidence to be comfortable of my writing. I, at first had no knowledge of blogging but now I can say that I know how to post without messing up, thankfully. I still have to improve a lot of things on my blog ... My blog is like my home where I can be carefree, ....

I had no confidence in what I used to write, even now I’m still not confident but I’m working my way to being confident about what what I write. Since in my home country we were just taught basic English, I didn’t know there was a whole new world of punctuations, and how they could make my writing more powerful.

...most of the time I have second thoughts about sharing my writing because I don’t want people to know anything but I stop myself and share it anyway because I, now feel that sometimes it’s okay to let it out.

Summaiya

Slide42

Masooma Gr 10:

Starting a blog has really inspired me. I like how I can always keep a track of what I wrote because it’s all up there. This blog keeps me accountable for writing. It also motivates me to write the best I can so that I can put my work up for everyone to read. I developed in the way that this blog keeps me organized. I don’t have to worry about where my writing is because I can find it all on here.

The student blogs that I will continue following would be:

Ziyana

,

Katherine

,

Faith

,

Ayat &

Aemon

. These blogs give me so much inspiration and I also just really enjoy reading their writing.

Ziyana Gr 10:

… after looking at the blogs of others I felt inadequate and as though I wasn’t worthy of having a blog. Now, my perspective on blogs and my blogging identity has completely changed. I love being able to use the blog as a tool to better my writing- the prospect of putting my work onto the blog makes me work that much harder just to make sure that it is blog-worthy. The blog is a quiet stage but a stage nonetheless, and something about the stage just thrills me. I’m glad for the opportunity to be able to build my writing portfolio in such an easy, accessible way. I’m also grateful that I can see the polished work of others up on their respective blogs, because I know that it is their best work up there and I feel honored to be able to read these wonderful works of art. ... I just feel so blessed to have access to these vaults of writing.

Slide43

Sandi – Gr 10

Blogging is how I exercise my passion for writing. Exercise always has a positive effect on your body in physical manners, but this way of exercising has a positive effect on your mind and soul. Blogging is addicting. It gives you this refined satisfaction once you publish a work as a post, and I believe it’s because you’ve created something that bares value in both quantity and quality.

There is an edit button. There is always an edit button, even after you’ve published a work. People expect you to improve, so the option to edit stays with your work after it is made public. And honestly, I’ve pressed that edit button over 50 times after publishing.

Claire –Grade 11

I’m proud of the portfolio, of sorts, that I’ve developed and this blog will always be here as a representation of my past work and an inspiration for my future work.

Slide44

Alisha – Grade 11

I feel a community within our class and within our class blog and it brings me joy. We all able, to inspire and blossom off of one another.

My blog is a place where my endless ideas can be laid out for me to piece together my abstract mind. I wish to later on this year add my art pieces into my blog, inspiring my blog writing and such. I included multiple links and websites within my blog.I was able to get helpful feedback, inspire others and be inspired by my own accomplishments.
