The Need596 million people have some form of VL and this is expected to rise to 895 million in the next 30 years.About 90% of those affected live in low-and middle income countries.The majority of the causes of blindness are either preventable or treatable.Health promotion can significantly reduce the magnitude of these conditions.

3. What is health promotionThe fundamental role of health promotion is to “enable people to increase control over, and to improve their own health”Health promotion entails implementing clear multisectoral policies (involving education, health, environment, water resources, food industry, etc), and developing regulations and legislation to make healthy choices accessible and affordable to all.It also includes health literacy which entails empowering individuals to make the healthiest choices and decisions for themselves and their families by increasing their knowledge and social skills.

4. How can eye health promotion be delivered?By Policy makers. Multi sectoral policy.Access to eye healthRegulation of food industryProvision of water and sanitation in cities and communities.Safe school environmentBy Health workers.Pregnant women.Young children.School age childrenAdolescentsPeople of working ageElderly.In health facilities. In the workplace. In schools. In community/whatsapp groups.
