Dr.
Sra completed her undergraduate training at the University of Texas in Austin and graduated with honors. She attended medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston with an internship and a Dermatology residency. Before completing her training, she was a part of the clinical trials at the Department of Dermatology at the University of Texas Medical branch at Galveston and Center for Clinical Studies in Houston.

What is Acne?
Acne is a skin condition that occurs because:
Hair follicles are blocked due to oil (sebum: produced form sebaceous glands) and dead skin cells
Overproduction of sebum (puberty)Buildup of bacteriaCollection of dead skin cellsCommonly appears on:Face, chest, back, neck, and shouldersSlide5
The different types of Acne
Non-inflammatory lesions
Comedones (blackheads and whiteheads)- created when the openings of hair follicles are clogged and blocked with sebum, dead skin cells, and occasionally bacteria
Inflammatory lesionsPapules- raised bumps (signal of inflammation/infection)Pustules (pimples)- red and tender filled with pus at the tipsNodules- large and solid lumps beneath the surface of the skinCysts-(the most painful) boil-like infections usually cause scarringSlide6
