Changes: FlemingOne door closes/one door opens 3 years ago Fleming College advised Upgrading that learners can no longer use college services such as counselling, health services, exercise facilities, tutoring, career services Reason: Upgrading learners are not fee paying students, and the use of the above noted services are for fee paying students as part of their tuition Fleming College Peterborough Academic Upgrading co-located with Fleming CREW Employment services

Identify - changes We no longer could rely on Fleming Services for learners We needed to identify community resources/supports We wondered how the co-location would impact our program and learners CAMS system change – CAMS tracks learner progress through milestones and also tracks referrals

Define - Strategy Academic Upgrading needed to “ Make Connections in the Community” to promote awareness of Academic Upgrading , foster referrals and enhance learner case management.

Explore community resources to increase referrals and enhance case management PR – Form; suitability criteria Education level < grade 12 Source of income Age Person with disability Native person Deaf Deaf blind Learner needs Upgrade - LBS Income, job support C ounselling Tutoring Health, well being Encouragement Active listening Questions answered ?

In-person outreach within the community Collaborating with other community LBS providers more Blended Learning opportunities e.g. Contact North Working with internal college departments such as Student Services: Accessible Education Services, Counselling Services – now able to service post-secondary students who are struggling with barriers – be more of a remedial service working in conjunction with the EAS – one specific example of this is with an out-of-province student. • working together for this student’s successful completion of college program – those involved include: Program Coordinator, Faculty, Student Financial Aid, Aboriginal Counsellors and Academic Upgrading (and 1:1 tutoring arranged through referral to another LBS provider).
