THE SIX OBJECTS

OF KIWANIS INTERNATIONAL

2013-2014

To give primacy to the human & spiritual rather than the material values of life.

To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.

To promote the adoption & the application of higher social, business, & professional

standards.

To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, & serviceable citizenship.

altruistic service, & to build better communities.

To cooperate in creating & maintaining that sound public opinion & high idealism which make

“STEPS TO EXCELLENCE”

Heavenly Father

,

Remind us that God judges a person by measuring the heart instead of the head. Let us not grow smug and self-righteous because we attend religious services each week. Make us realize we must extend a helping hand to those of Your children who are ill, lonely, hungry, or lost.

And

now bless this food to our use and us to Your service. Amen

TH

MEETING

Please keep Nancy Bernard , Bill MacLeod , and Charlie Bender in your prayers.

Sam’s presentation focused on local sports and much on the Jaguars and Kahn's leadership. The examples given emphasized the importance of leadership focused on personal excellence and the ability to create a team attitude that generates a group drive towards bettering the team--going beyond self improvement and building the best team you can create.

Thank you, Sam, for another interesting and informative talk.

KIWANIS EDUCATION

The first Kiwanis club was organized in Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A., in 1914. The group received a charter from the state of Michigan on January 21, 1915 – the day that is regarded as the birth date of Kiwanis. The founding club’s name is Detroit Kiwanis Club No. 1 in recognition of its heritage.

The name “Kiwanis” was coined from an expression of the American Indians in the Detroit area, which was found in Bishop Baraga’s dictionary of the

Otchipew

language. The expression “

Nunc

Kee

-wan-

nis

” meant, broadly, “we trade”, or “we share our talents.” As a coined word, however, “Kiwanis” has no meaning except as the name of a leading international service club.
