Cadburys Gorilla Advert (Phil Collins)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SP8E6ouSiC0 In this advert Cadburys have a gorilla playing the drums which is very unusual and odd. The first shot is just the gorilla playing the drums so we have no idea what this advert could be about at first. It goes to an open pan view of the drum studio with good lighting and the purple background which is Cadburys colour, then a close up of the drum solo at the end When first seeing this advert you wouldn’t know it was Cadburys straight away as they don’t advertise the chocolate in the advert until the very end. By doing this Cadburys have made the nation laugh at this advert as it is very funny and memorable so everyone will talk about it which promotes the chocolate. At the end of the advert the Cadburys chocolate bar appears, this makes you see the chocolate and it makes you want it as you are already in a good mood because the advert was so funny and no one has ever seen an advert like this before. The target audience to this advert would be to everyone as everyone loves chocolate. It would probably be aired on TV at a later time of day when people are settled down watching television and then when seeing this advert they are in the mood for chocolate. Slide2

British Heart Foundation – CPR Hands only – Vinnie Jones Advert http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILxjxfB4zNkThis advert is about CPR and how to do it. The advert uses humour with Vinnie Jones the ultimate ‘hard man’ and his two henchmen with a gangster theme to it. The main shots used in this advert are of Vinnie Jones talking directly to the camera, as if he is talking to you and only you. The advert also uses shots of Vinnie and his two henchmen looking at what he is doing and dancing in the background to the music. By using Vinnie Jones and the soundtrack used, Stayin’ Alive by the Bee Gees it captures peoples attention. Using this soundtrack makes it humorous and gives it a simple way of doing CPR, to the beat of Stayin’ Alive and the simple instructions to do so before hand. The advert is funny because you wouldn’t think someone like Vinnie Jones would know how to save a life or want to which give humour to the advert. Adverts that are to do with saving someone's life are usually more serious than this one but because its funny people remember it and now the public who watch it now know how to perform CPR. The target audience for this advert would be suitable for most ages as this is a very useful skill to know and they would want to promote to the public. I imagine this advert would be aired at very popular times through out the day so the message in this advert can get out to the public.Slide4

What does the ASA do?ASA: The Advertising Standards Authority is the UK’s independent regulator of advertising across all media. They apply the Advertising Codes, which are written by the Committees of Advertising Practice. Their work includes acting on complaints and proactively checking the media to take action against misleading, harmful or offensive advertisements. The types of advertising the ASA cover are newspapers, magazines, billboards, posters, leaflets, mailings, e-mails, texts and on UK based company websites. It can take just one complaint for the ASA to start an investigation, the result of which can be that an ad has to be taken down or banned form being shown on national television.Although some people do not like certain advertisements purely because they find them irritating, it does not provide strong enough grounds to ban an ad. Therefore, the ASA cannot look into complaints on that basis. The UK Code of Broadcast Advertising (BCAP Code) applies to the content and scheduling of television and radio advertisements. It also covers programmed sponsorship credits on radio and television services but complaints about these are handled by OFCOM (The Office of Communications).
