Colleen Longacre HSRPA PhD Student and Margaret Rothstein MCH MPH Student BACKGROUND The Jan Seva School currently provides educational opportunities and health care initiatives to children and mothers from povertystricken areas of Kolkata India In January 2016 two students from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health traveled to Kolkata to conduct a needs assessment of Jan Seva and population it serves in order to evaluate the success of programs to date and to ascertain what new priorities the organization may want to aim for A major component was understanding the communitys perception of Jan Sevas programs . In less than a century we have moved from a society that never considered adolescence as a stage of li fe or teenager as a word for that matter to one that has created an ar tificial holding zone denying children a necessary part of growing up Fac Substance Misuse.
