Successful Career Paths There is no “magic” path. However, recent promotion boards provide some important takeaways: Diversity of jobs – embed and LC and MOB/DEP Don’t homestead – if more than 3+ consecutive years in a unit or LOD, you need to move Leadership jobs are important – BJA, GJA, CJA, SJA, Tm Ldr, Dep Cdr LOD, Cdr LOD, Mil JudgeDon’t wait to get leadership jobs or deploy

Mobilization and Deployment Volunteer ! Seek out and accept the challenge! Leaders: Identify talent for MOB/DEP – your recommendation is required by TJAG – your job as a Leader is to send them and test them; they will return to you better, stronger and more qualified than when you sent themMobilization and Deployment (MOB/DEP) is where you put your hard earned readiness and professionalism to work for the Army’s missionIt is the ultimate test of readiness for a Soldier/LawyerYour performance of duty on MOB/DEP become one of the benchmarks for your potential for leadership in the JAG Corps12

Officer Assignments – Tenured COL LTCSJARDCSDCCJABJAMil JudgeDIMATJAG approves all tenured assignments Standard is 3-Year tenure (included are: Cdr Judge’s LOD, all Mil Judges, all other non-command positions)2-Year tenure for all other LOD Cdrs Positions advertised for 60 days before selection GOSC application; list your preferences (e.g. list 1-n, “Any” – means ANY, “Needs of the Army”) Current ORB and Photo

The RC GOSC Process RC GOSC goes fully digital in July 2018AC and RC JA GOs participateIT’S A BOARD! Mirrors promotion boardsboard sees two screens – ORB & PHOTO - NO current ORB and PHOTO reflects on you Free flowing and open discussion of all applicants – they know you, or you’ve worked for them, or you’ve worked for someone they know and trustAssignments are based on: Needs of the Army, Needs of the JAG Corps, Personal Interest – in that order (JALS Pub 1-1)
