TIMELINE Post War/Rebirth (2376
TIMELINE Post War/Rebirth (2376-84) 2376 -The Battle of Cardassia was the final engagement between the forces of the Federation Alliance and those of the Dominion. A fierce, bloody fight, thousands of Alliance ships were lost. In the bat-tle’s final hours, forces of the Cardassian Guard switched sides and joined the Alliance against the Jem’Hadar and Breen. In retaliation, the Founders ordered the Jem’Hadar to lay waste to Cardas-sia Prime, killing in excess of 800 million people. After Cardassia Prime was surrounded and Alliance ground forces began deploying, the Female founder was captured and along with her top advisors and fleet commanders, was taken to Federa-tion Space Station Deep Space Nine. The subsequent articles of surrender that were signed aboard the station came to be known as the Treaty of Bajor. -Captain Benjamin Sisko confronts the renegade Cardassian Gul, Skrain Dukat, in the Bajoran Fire Caves. In an ensuing fight, Dukat is killed and Sisko mysteriously vanishes. It is later revealed that he ascended to the plane of the Prophets following this incident. -Following the departure of the Changeling Odo from Deep Space Nine, the Bajoran Militia assigns Lieutenant Ro Laren to serve onboard the station as Chief of Security under Colonel Kira Nerys. -Starfleet Command reassigns veteran officer Elias Vaughn to Deep Space Nine from his former post at Starfleet Intelligence, to serve as first officer. Vaughn, who retained a number of high rank-ing contacts throughout Starfleet would remain a key intelligence figure. -Major Cenn Deska is assigned to Deep Space Nine as the official Bajoran Liason. -In July, Captain Sisko returns to linear existence. -On 23 September, Deep Space Nine becomes the site for the Republic of Bajor’s formal admit-tance into the United Federation of Planets -The Luna class Development Project is resumed. 2377 -A Borg Transwarp Hub is activated, with an enormous aperture opening into the Alpha Quadrant. Fearing yet another Borg invasion is imminent, Starfleet Command sends a hastily assembled task force, led by the Starship Enterprise (CH 1701-E), to the mouth of the aperture. -In recognition of his service to the Empire, Klingon Chancellor Martok formally requests that the Federation Council assigns Starfleet Lt. Cmdr. Worf, son of Mogh, to become the official Federation Ambassador to the Klingon Empire. Both the council and Starfleet Command unanimously agree to the decision. -Klag, son of M’Raq, is promoted to General and becomes the Deputy Commander of the Klingon Defense Forces. -Captain Robert DeSoto is promoted to Rear Admiral by Starfleet Command and placed in charge of Federation re-construction and re-development efforts. -Neral, Praetor of the Romulan Star Empire, is assassinated for unknown reasons, by Hiren, an Ad-miral in the Imperial Navy. Hiren ascends to the praetorate not long after. -Alon Ghemor is elected to the position of Castellan and becomes the first post-war leader of the Cardassian Union. His first moves are to appoint Elim Garak to the position of Ambassador to the United Federation of Planets and Akellen Macet as the new head of the Cardassian Guard, with the rank of Gul-tar -Liam Bacco, is elected to the position of First District Representative from Tycho City, Luna. This marks the beginning of a storied political career that will culminate with his election to the Presi-dency of the United Federation of Planets—an office held by his maternal grandmother Nanietta from 2379-92. 2378 -Kathryn Janeway is promoted to Vice Admiral and assigned to Starfleet Headquarters. Command of the Starship Voyager (CA 74656) is transferred to the recently promoted Captain Chakotay. -Romulan Praetor Hiren, along with the rest of the Imperial Senate is assassinated by Tal’Aura, a senator loyal to Reman dissident Shinzon. Commanding an immensely powerful warship—the Scimitar—Shinzon plots to destroy Earth with a thalaron weapon. His efforts are thwarted by the Starship Enterprise along with the Romulan Norexan class warbirds Valdore and T’Sarok. All three ships sustain severe damage before Enterprise Commander Data succeeds in destroying the Scimi-tar—at the cost of his own life. -The Cardassian Union opens a formal dialogue with its former enemy—the Klingon Empire—with the end goal of establishing a peaceful alliance. The move is opposed by a majority of the Central Command, but is seen as necessary by Cardassian Guard leader Akellen Macet, given the Cardas-sian Military’s extraordinarily week position following the end of the war. He is backed by both the Detapa Council and his efforts are strongly endorsed by the Federation Starfleet. -To support planned exploration and scientific efforts in the Gamma Quadrant, Starfleet begins con-struction of a new Ournal II class Space Station in the Gamma Quadrant’s Keldanis Star System. 2379 -Federation President Min Zife is implicated in the Tezwan affair. It is revealed that Zife and his Chief of Staff Koll Azernal had supplied extremely powerful nadion-pulse cannons to the Tezwans 6 years earlier at the outset of the Dominion War for use against the Dominion. Over the course of those 6 years however, the Tezwan political structure destabilized and a warlord named Kinchawn had seized power and declared himself Prime Minister. Under Kinchawn’s direction, the Tezwans later claim sovereignty over the Klingon colony world of Qi’Vol and use the Federation supplied weapons to destroy a Klingon Task Force which had arrived in response. The Starship Enterprise, which had accompanied the task force, was the only ship to survive. The aftermath of the affair saw Enterprise Captain Jean-Luc Picard, UFP Ambassador to Tezwa Lagan Serra along with the Starfleet Admiralty—Edward Jellico, William Ross, Owen Paris, Alynna Nechayev and Mamoru Nakamara—secretly conspire to force Zife, Azernal

and Federation Secre-tary of Military
and Federation Secre-tary of Military Intelligence Nelino Quafina—out of office at gunpoint before the truth about the inci-dent became public—a side effect of which would almost certainly be war with the Klingon Empire. Unbeknownst to the other conspirators, Admiral Ross was once again contacted by Section 31. Fol-lowing Zife’s resignation speech, Ross allowed Section 31 agents into the Monet Room at the Palais de Concorde and was subsequently forced into allowing Zife, Azernal and Quafina to be assassi-nated. Ross was unaware however, that Quafina had involved the Orion Syndicate in the initial transaction between Starfleet and the Tezwans back in 2373. The Syndicate, believing Ross to have assassinated all 3 personally, passed this falsehood along to the correspondant of a Trill newsjournal. This correspondant in turn, blackmailed Zife’s successor, Nanietta Bacco. Either she would personally force Ross into retirement, or the whole sordid truth about the Federation’s afore-mentioned involvement would become public knowledge. Rather than put Bacco’s life in jeopardy by explaining it was Section 31 who was actually behind the assassinations, Ross quietly slipped into retirement and out of the public eye. -At the conclusion of the Tezwan affair, Commander William Riker is promoted to Captain and along with his wife, Commander Deanna Troi, he transfers to his new command—the USS Titan (DH 80102). -The Female Changeling is tried and convicted by a Starfleet Military Tribunal of ‘crimes against sentient beings’ and subsequently incarcerated at a top secret, maximum security Federation instal-lation at Ananke Alpha. 2380 -The Klingon Empire begins to drastically scale back its expansionist policies. -The Federation begins providing aide to and makes an official offer to assist in negotiations for the re-establishment of a permanent Romulan government. This will prove unsuccessful however, inter-nal strife within the Romulan political landscape resulting in the formation of a breakaway nation known as the Imperial Romulan State, headed by Donatra—a former Imperial Fleet Commander and now the self-appointed Empress. The Klingon Empire immediately recognizes the existence of this new state, much to the Federation’s chagrin. It will be a year before the UFP, bowing to Klingon pressure, makes a former recognition of its own. -Jaresh-Inyo, a Grazerite who served as President of the UFP from 2369 to 2372, dies at his home on Mars. -Vice Admiral Kathryn Janeway dies. Officially, her death is attributed to natural causes. Unoffi-cially however, she is one of many casualties in an incursion by the Borg. This is a prelude to a full scale invasion the Borg will launch in early 2381—details of which are classified at its conclusion 3 months later. -All data regarding the planet Talos IV, its inhabitants and the mission made there by the Starship Enterprise (CH 1701) in 2254 is de-classified by Starfleet Command. Additionally, General Order 7—restricting all forms of contact with that world and its inhabitants—is lifted. The Federation Coun-cil directs Starfleet Command to plan and execute a long term diplomatic initiative with the goal of determining the world’s suitability for Federation membership. -Quantum Slipstream technology, an extremely advanced form of propulsion able to successfully break the warp speed barrier, enters use aboard cruisers of the Vesta (CA 82600) class, including the USS Aventine. Though still highly experimental at this point, its incredible potential will spur Starfleet to plan and execute yet another long-term exploratory and scientific initiative, Project Full Circle as well as begin designing a new generation of starships towards the end of the decade. 2381 -The Borg launch a full-scale assault on the United Federation of Planets. The conflict eventually engulfs the Klingon Empire, Romulan Star Empire and Imperial Romulan State as well. A classified mission by the Starships Titan and Enterprise ends the invasion three months later, with several worlds decimated, billions killed and serious damage done to the Federation’s Starfleet and its over-all infrastructure. No further contact is ever made with the Collective from this point forward. The post-war reconstruction and rebuilding initiative is set back at least a decade, but is subsequently expanded in light of the massive losses. -During the crisis, the Federation Council endorsed an expansion of the Khitomer Accords, gaining new allies in the Imperial Romulan State, Ferengi Alliance, Talarian Republic and Cardassian Union. -The Typhon Pact is formed in response to the new, expanded Federation Alliance as a major op-posing force, made up of member states (Romulan Star Empire, Tholian Assembly, Breen Confed-eracy, Gorn Hegemony, Holy Order of the Kinshaya) who have or have had tense or openly hostile relations with the Federation and/or Klingons. This fundamentally reshapes the astro-political land-scape and will have far reaching implications in coming years. -In response to a technology exchange between the Typhon Pact powers—which includes the wide scale dispersion of Cloaking technology—the Federation Alliance drafts a wide ranging defense ini-tiative which among other things, provides for the sweeping modernization of the Cardassian & Ta-larian fleets as well as the wide-scale adoption of ground-based Nadion Pulse weaponry. This is seen by many as a dangerous development. Not only does a new arms race slowly begin, but the Gamma Quadrant becomes the new front in a tense period of territorial expansion by both sides. -The Starship Columbia (CA 02) is returned to Sector 001 by the USS da Vinci (ST 81623) and taken to Starfleet’s Boston Naval Yards for extensive repairs. An NX class cruiser in service to the Earth Starfleet during the 22nd Century, the Columbia was lost and presumed destroyed with all hands during the opening chapter of the Earth-Romulan War. Ho

wever, just prior to the Borg Inva-sion
wever, just prior to the Borg Inva-sion earlier in the year, the Starship Aventine discovered the wreckage of the Columbia, which had crash landed on an uninhabited world in the Gamma Quadrant under extremely mysterious circum-stances. 2382 -The Romulan Star Empire faces an open revolt by the Remans, led by Colonel Xiomek. They openly oppose the continued exploitation of their people as well as that of their homeworld—which had increased markedly since the establishment of the Typhon Pact alliance. At least three at-tempts are made on Xiomek’s life by elements of the Tal’Shiar. -Empress Donatra sends agents to Romulus and opens a secret dialogue with Xiomek. Donatra of-fers Xiomek a seat on the Imperial Senate and full citizenship for the Reman people within the Impe-rial State—which he heartily endorses. A plan is devised whereby Federation and Cardassian transports would help evacuate the Reman population to the Imperial world of Crateris. The Tal’Shiar eventually learns of the operation, but takes no action on the orders of Praetor Tal’Aura, who views Donatra as doing nothing more than solving the Star Empire’s problem. -A spiritual renaissance is born in the Cardassian Union with the discovery of several Hebitian relics during a routine archeological expedition. The discovery is heralded by many as the first step to-wards the Union regaining its former spiritual and cultural prominence. This is also the impetus for renewed initiatives aimed towards developing and strengthening the educational system as well as promoting research and development in many scientific arenas. -Low-level tensions between the two Romulan states increase markedly after the Star Empire’s failed attempt to retake the planet of Virinak, a key agricultural world which once served as one of the Empire’s ‘breadbaskets’, but was seized by forces loyal to Empress Donatra in her breakaway. The Federation attempts to defuse the situation by crafting a plan to provide industrial replication systems to several key colonies, but is rebuffed when the Empire’s Tholian & Tzenketh allies step in. -Orion and Nausicaan pirates began harassing Alliance shipping in at least half a dozen systems along the Federation-Romulan Neutral Zone. Starfleet issues the Perimeter Defense Directive in response and all Alliance powers take steps to strengthen their borders. 2383 -Starfleet’s ASDB ends all research and development work on Transwarp propulsion technology, citing the lack of tangible progress as well as the dismal performance of a prototype Transwarp Drive system installed and tested on the Excalibur (BBX 99000) class prototype. Propulsion R&D shifts to Quantum Slipstream, which though experimental, has shown remarkable promise employed on ships of the Vesta class. -A Gorn DN-40 class dreadnought attacks and destroys a KDF battle group on routine patrol near the Archer star system, where a starbase is under construction. Despite the fact that the whole at-tack is recorded by a nearby Starfleet Monitoring Station, the Typhon Pact officially defends the ac-tions of the Gorn Navy, citing the Federation Alliance’s recent starbase deployment activity, de-nouncing it as ‘provocative’ and further condemning the border patrols, claiming they were ‘acts of sanctioned espionage’. In response, the Klingons break off diplomatic relations with the Hegemony while the Federation and Talarians reassert the Alliance’s right to protect the borders of its member states. -In the aftermath of the attack, the Imperial Romulan Fleet launches attacks against three key Star Navy installations in the Devron, Belak & T’Met systems while Starfleet steps up its anti-piracy and interdiction efforts, increasing the deployment of ships and personnel to various ‘hot spots’ as well as establishing a number of Marine bases in those areas. -Nearly a quarter of the population of the Cardassian colony on Belavi II dies from mysterious causes. A forensic investigation reveals the colony’s water source had been contaminated with an incredibly potent biotoxin. Despite the Alliance’s best efforts, the biotoxin’s origin as well as that of the perpetrators is unable to be determined. 2384 -Starfleet transfers custody of the android known as “B-4” to the Soong Foundation in the hopes they can unlock the “Data Matrix”, ultimately restoring Data to existence. Commander Geordi La-Forge joins in this effort. -Klingon Imperial Intelligence agents arrive on Gornar and begin covert operations of an unknown nature. -Hostilities between the Klingons & Gorn escalate with the Gorn annihilating the Klingon colony on B’Moth. The Federation is drawn into the conflict with the Gorn forces attack and severely damage Starbase 36 during their retreat. The Federation cuts diplomatic ties with all 6 Typhon Pact states in response and Starfleet is placed on a heightened state of alert. -Senator Xiomek is killed when his ship—the IRW Ventarix explodes in orbit of Zeta Pictoris. While the Tal’Shiar is suspected at first, Nausicaan pirates later claim responsibility for sabotaging the warbird during a layover. Zelrexxon, a Reman General, takes his place in the Imperial Senate. Conflict’s Return (2385-87) 2385 -The Federation 4th Fleet, lead by Captain T’Laan aboard the newly commissioned USS Excalibur (BB 99000), destroys a number of Nausicaan pirate bases and subsequently begins a blockade of Nausicaa. -The Gorn King Xrathis is assassinated by the Klingon I.I. team which had been operating on the homeworld for little over a year. The Hegemony, suspecting but having no proof of Klingon involve-ment, declares war on the Klingon Empire with the full support of its Typhon Pact allies. The Alli-ance initially favors a diplomatic response—infuriating the Klingons—but ultimately declares solidar-ity with the Empire. 9 years after the defeat of the Dominion, war once again engulfs the Alpha & Beta Quadrants. -A number

of new ship classes are launched by bot
of new ship classes are launched by both sides; the Cardassian Hutet, the Klingon Vo’Quv, the Federation Essex and the Gorn BH-70. -The Cardassian Obsidian Order is reestablished. -In a trap laid by Orion Pirates, the USS Phoenix (CC 94351) under Admiral Thomas Dodge, is am-bushed and nearly destroyed by the Breen & Kinshaya at Lambda Boralis. This confirms the suspi-cions of Starfleet Intelligence that the Typhon Pact was using both the Orions and Nausicaans to wage a proxy war in the years leading up to the outbreak of wide-scale hostilities. -Jean-Luc Picard ends his tenure as Captain of the Starship Enterprise (CH 1701-E) to accept an Ambassadorial position with the Federation Diplomatic Corps. 2386 -Efforts by the Soong Foundation to restore the “Data Matrix” are successful and the android regains full functionality. Starfleet Command accepts Data’s request to return to active duty and he is pro-moted to Captain, assuming command of the Starship Enterprise following the departure of Captain Picard. -Starfleet’s first Space Station in the Gamma Quadrant, Starbase 417, is completed and brought online. -Quantum Slipstream Propulsion is perfected and certified for deployment throughout the fleet. Along with backfitting the technology to selected vessels, this will push the ASDB to begin develop-ment work on a new generation of starships incorporating it. -Type XV Phasers, previously experimental and used only on ships of the Excalibur and Essex classes, are also certified for fleet-wide deployment. A quantum leap over the Type XII’s which they will eventually supplant, these extremely powerful weapons are capable of defeating most deflector shield systems with minimal effort and place Starfleet in a tactically superior position compared to other major powers. -A special report by the Romulan Mining Guild concludes that continued operations on Remus could result in the planet’s catastrophic destruction, similar to what occurred on the Klingon moon of Praxis nearly a century earlier. The Romulan Senate however, declines to take any action, citing wartime needs. Several notable fleet commanders, including Taris, Tomolok and Mendak criticize the senate’s inaction. -The Gorn Navy scores a major victory over the Klingon Defense Forces at Gila IV, destroying the Klingon’s ground installations, an orbital supply depot and several dozen ships. -The Federation 12th Fleet struggles to repel a combined Breen/Kinshaya/Tzenkethi force at Deep Space Nine, but is soon reinforced with the arrival of the Cardassian 3rd Order, lead by Gul-tar Ma-cet aboard the Guard’s new flagship Hutet. Together, they manage to drive off or destroy the at-tackers. 2387 -The Hobus star begins experiencing massive fluctuations, the prelude to an eventual supernova. Ambassador Spock, still located on Romulus, appears before the Senate to deliver a warning re-garding the star. Ambassador Jean-Luc Picard meanwhile, appeals for assistance from the Vulcan Science Academy, but is refused. The Romulans are skeptical of Spock’s warning, but the Senate soon issues an evacuation order and recalls its forces from the front lines, with the Tholians and Gorn sending a limited number of ships to assist. While the evacuation is being mobilized, Spock takes an experimental Vulcan ship and a quantity of the extremely volatile substance known as ‘Red Matter’ and journeys to the Hobus star in the hopes of using the substance to prevent the star from going nova. 27 hours later however, the star goes nova with Spock still too far away to prevent it. The ensuing shockwave destroys Romulus, Remus and most of the ships participating in the evacuation effort, killing billions of people. Spock arrives not long after and launches the Red Matter into the super-nova anyways, in an effort to contain the destruction. The Starship Enterprise arrives to find the re-sulting singularity/black hole enveloping Spock’s ship as well as the Romulan vessel Narada, how-ever they are too late to assist and both vessels are lost and presumed destroyed. -In the aftermath of the star’s destruction, the pace of the war slows dramatically. Fleet Admirals Taris & Suran—the only two members of the Romulan military to survive the disaster—unite and convince their Typhon Pact allies to halt the fighting. The Tholians, Gorn and Breen reluctantly agree, while the Tzenkethi and Kinshaya blindly press on with their campaigns, attempting to press deeper into Federation & Klingon space respectively. Alliance forces however, destroy much of both fleets during a combined assault at Jouret V. Following this defeat, the Typhon Pact states unite and call for an end to the fighting. -Led by the Federation and Cardassians, the Alliance convenes a summit on Cardassia Prime aimed at not only putting an end to a fighting amongst all states, but to rebuild them as well. The hostilities are formally ended a month later by the signing of a peace treaty at Deep Space Nine. The Federation reiterates its peaceful intentions and returns to its exploratory and scientific endeav-ors as well as redoubling its rebuilding and reconstruction efforts in the light of the recent destruc-tion. -To further the reconstruction efforts, the ASDB takes possession of the Istanbul class transport Or-lando (TT 38517) and the Java class freighter San Martin (TF 24894) to use as testbeds for the pos-sible widescale application of Quantum Slipstream Propulsion throughout Starfleet’s Transport arm. -To assist in ongoing reconstruction efforts, Starfleet Transport Command requests authorization to reactivate 2 transport-tug classes (Al-Rashid/Moncrief and Hensley), many examples of which are still mothballed in storage. Despite the advanced age of the classes—which dated to the mid-late 23rd century—director of reconstruction & redevelopment, Rear Admiral Robert DeSoto endorses the request and it is subsequently approved by the Federation Council
