COURSES AND ENTRY REQUIREMENTS 35 level 3 courses on

offer (A levels, BTECs and applied)Sixth form entry:Five grade 5’s minimum to study all A level courses

Five grade 5’s minimum to study a combination of A level courses and vocational courses (BTEC’s and applied L3 courses)Each subject has their own entry requirement and Average Point Score (APS) linked to them for guidance (see page

8 and 9

in handbook)

Slide7

The GCSE Average Points Score (APS)ALL of your son/daughters GCSE grades count towards the GCSE Average Points Score (APS)All GCSE grades achieved are added together and divided by the total number to give an APS.

The APS acts as a guide to the students skill and knowledge level.Every course in the sixth form has an APS guideline as an entry requirements alongside the grade requirements.

The higher the grades achieved in ALL GCSE courses, the higher the APS will be, giving access to more courses in the sixth form.A common statement from students is that a certain course at GCSE isn't important to them. E.g

“Geography at GCSE doesn’t matter as I don’t want to study that at A Level”. BUT – the grade will impact on the APS and could restrict your entry to certain courses.

Work experience opportunitiesWe encourage all our sixth form students to take up work experience opportunities – it helps build vital skills

One week is allocated at the end of the summer term of year 12 for ALL students to go on work experienceThe work experience needs to be planned and organised by the student – the school does not do this for you

The school advises and supports in finding work experience placements and will need some forms completed to ensure health and safety and safeguarding processes are being met by the organisation. The sixth form team will make visits to meet the students at their work experience placementIf you would like more advanced information on the year 12 work experience week please speak with Mrs Jackman on the enrichment stall in the main hall.
