Affiliate Relations This endeavor serves to better represent the Student Advisory Council (SAC) amongst the various affiliates with which the USBLN works. Affiliate issues on the SAC are represented by the Affiliate Liaison, an elected position held by one of the SAC members. The SAC Affiliate Liaison works closely with the Director of Affiliate Relations, Lynn Kirkbride, for the USBLN.The SAC Affiliate Liaison attends monthly phone conferences with the BLN’s and Director of Affiliate Relations, where he reports to the affiliate network about the SAC.The SAC Affiliate Liaison also reports the status of Affiliate Relations to the SAC during their monthly meetings. At any given time, the SAC Affiliate Liaison may provide his relevant input to either the affiliate network or the SAC, and may also work with both groups on relevant projects. There are a number of Business Leadership Networks (BLNs) around the country work have SAC representatives as a part of their BLN’s.SAC chair, Matthew Shapiro, and SAC chair emeritus, Damon Wandke, are involved with the Washington DC BLN, and are helping them set up new programs. SAC chair, Anna Quinlivan , is involved in the North Carolina BLN. Eric Jenkins and Kyle Manske have met with the Chicago BLN, which is working to reorganize, and have talked strategy .

Disability Disclosure 1-pager Project This project was developed to create A one pager for USBLN affiliated businesses that will discuss and give feedback on the disability disclosure process of potential employees during and after the interview process. This one pager will also explore potential ways to make the disclosure process better and more efficient. Included on the one pager will be a definition of disability disclosure, some background on the new 503 regulations, direct quotes and stories from Young adults who have gone through the disclosure process. We gathered these quotes by developing a survey that was sent out to a variety of groups. We received 42 responses from our survey. We will then take the data we have collected to develop the disability disclosure one pager. We hope to have a draft of the one pager, that can be reviewed and edited within the next few months.

Career Link Mentoring Program and Student Involvement at the Conference There are a total of 33 students and recent graduates, from the USBLN’s SAC and Career Link Mentoring Program, in attendance at the conference this year. This is almost a 100% increase from last year’s conference when 17 students were in attendance. 7 are SAC members 4 are SAC members (current and alumni) and Career Link Mentees18 are 2014 Career Link Mentees4 are 2013 Career Link Mentees (alumni)They are a diverse group of students from across the country and they represent a variety of majors and career interests. We encourage BLN Affiliate members to attend a Speed Networking Session on Wednesday, October 1 from 1:15pm-2:30pm in the Tarpon Room to get a chance to meet the students and recent graduates in a fast-paced, structured setting. This is part of the regular conference so no prior registration is required. Attendees of this session will have five minutes to connect with and learn more about the mentees and SAC members, their educational background, work/internship experiences, what their needs are and what the talent they can offer your company.  Once the bell rings, the mentees and SAC members rotate and you meet someone new!

University Relations This project was created to better promote career preparation and job opportunities for students with disabilities, as well as to build a better connection between companies and Students with Disabilities . Compiled a list of existing web-based job search resources specifically for students with disabilities that will be distributed to Disability Service and Career Centers at Universities nationwide. We’re currently exploring methods of distribution. Please approach us if you’d like us to add information you know of, or want to aid in distribution.Working on developing a 2014 pilot mentoring/connection program between a USBLN® business members’ employee resource group and a disabled student group. Currently in the process of creating an information on demand portal (e.g podcast) that shares USBLN SAC documents and provides support for students and young professionals in a digestible and accessible format.
