MANHATTAN OFFICE 40 40 E 34th Street, Suite 606 New York, NY 10016 T: 212 - 340 - 2910 F: 212 - 340 - 2908 CUCE NYC 4H JUNTOS MENTOR POSITION DESCRIPTION Position Title: 4 - H Juntos Mentor Intern Compensation: Volunteer, field placement &/or credit bearing Contact/Supervisor: Lucinda Randolph Benjamin, Family & 4 - H Youth Development Tel: (212) 340 - 29 07 Email: lr26@cornell.edu SEND RESUME AND REFERENCES PROGRAM GOALS: Cornell Cooperative Extension - NYC (CUCE NYC) is seeking intern/ volunteer mentors to support the 4 - H Juntos Program at MS 390 in the Bronx . will provide guidance and leadership for a group of 60 students, with a ratio of 5 - 10 students per mentor over a period of 2 hours per session. Mentors will facilitate weekly 4 - H workshops and provide leadership for c ommunity outreach projects and special activities i nvolving parent engagement, field trips and career exploration that reinforce STEM education , college preparation and leadership to improve the overall outcome of their mentees. The Mentor’s Respo nsibility to Mentee • A c ommit ment of at least on e year in a relationship with their 4 - Juntos Group. • Spend a minimum of 4 0 hours per year engaged in programmatic activities with middle school youth , including bi weekly youth meetings and special activities (e.g. care er exploration event s, public presentations events, field trips , and parent meeting s ) • Lead group in completing the requirements of the 4 - H Juntos program including: o 2 cumulative 4 - H projects i.e. etc. ( Mentor s will t each workshops ) o At least 1 community service project o A final presentation during parent night event • Be respe

2 ctful of the mentee(s) time, opinions,
ctful of the mentee(s) time, opinions, and decision - making. • Serve as a positive role model by modeling desirable behaviors & skills — e.g. patience, tolerance, communication skills , and reflective listening. • Be comfortable and able to establish appropriate boundaries with the mentee(s). • Be encouraging and supportive of the mentee(s) . Responsibility to the CUCE NYC : • Successfully complete an interview with a 4 - H Staff Member . • Check - in with the 4 - H program staff every month , after placement at site . • A ttend on - going mentoring & 4 - H trainings to supplement work at respective sites. • Complete evaluation surveys to access program outcome. • Be patient and understand the mentoring relationship is a process that takes work and time. ol 4H Club meetings held twice a month focusing on academic success, public speaking, life skills, healthy living, citizenship and science.Fourth, Juntos youth grades 811 take part in field trips to colleges and other Juntos events like H Career Exploration. The 4H Career Exploration program provides opportunities for youth to explore academic fields and careers, develop leadership skills via handson experience in a college setting, Cornell University. New York City 4Hers meet youth from all over New York State.
