What does an ideal Food Preparation and Nutrition student look like?If you enjoy applying your knowledge to practical situations and you enjoy using a wide range of practical skills to create nutritious dishes, then this course provides exciting opportunities for you. You will use a wide range of skills e.g. problem solving, time management, application of scientific principles.What does the course entail?The GCSE food preparation & nutrition course has a wide and varying subject content. You will study a variety of topics including: Food preparation skills including general practical skills.Food, nutrition and health including making informed choices for a varied and balanced diet.Food science including the functional and chemical properties of food.Food choice including British and world cuisines.Food safety including the safe handling, storing and cooking of food.Food provenance including environmental issues associated with food and sustainability.How will students be assessed?There are three formal assessment for this course.NEA 1: Food Investigation Task (15%) of the marksNEA 2: Food Preparation Task (35%) of the marksWritten exam: 50% of the marksWhere can this lead to?Success in food preparation & nutrition can lead on to a number of varied and interesting careers in, for example, catering, nutrition, teaching and product development. This course leads on to the WJEC Level 3 food science and nutrition course.
