WHAT IS WISE ?

WISE – the World Innovation Summit for Education- is an initiative of Qatar Foundation established in 2009 under the leadership of its Chairperson, Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser. Through a range of year-round programs, WISE is a reference for new approaches in education, and a global forum for debate and collaborative action

The WISE Summit is a major event in the global education community and for Doha, attracting over 2000 participants from 100 countries. WISE Summit 2019 will convene at the Qatar National Convention Center, November 19 – 21.

WISE SUMMIT

UnLearn, ReLearn: What it means to be HumanOur world as we know it is changing rapidly. We struggle to keep up with what we have created and continue to create.We face shrinking development cycles coupled with the near instantaneous spread of ideas and information. The accelerated pace of change impacts the relevance and validity of what we think we know. We can no longer rely on a standard, fixed stock of knowledge to progress and prosper throughout our lives. Instead, we need to become lifelong learners who continuously develop and practice core character traits and skills. Traits and skills such as resilience, empathy, perseverance, creativity, imagination and collaboration.

These are the traits and skills that make us UNIQUELY HUMAN

.

In order to get there, we need to rethink what we know about education and the way we learn.What is the purpose of education and what does it mean for the human experience?

Participants share their ideas, views and stories around one main theme and in a supportive environment. Each talk is focused on one single message delivered in a story-telling novel engaging way to maintain the audience’s attention high and spark new thoughts among

participants.

This session also encourages candid

input from the WISE community.

Below is the list of the two themes for the Hear my story sessions.

Failure

: Failure is inevitable but teaches valuable lessons. The speakers are entrepreneurs, teachers, journalists or anyone with a project, initiative, or company that fell through, but who managed to overcome the situation, learn from their mistakes, and continue on their journey. Failure became part of their success and they would like to share with the audience learnings from their own mistakes to encourage anyone to take risks and be at peace with the fear of failing.

to achieve greater results. The speakers are entrepreneurs, teachers, journalist or anyone that one day took a step back to break from their old

habits and thinking

and opened to new ideas and methods. Their ability to constantly learn became part of their success and they would like to share with the audience one thing that they have unlearn and relearn to eventually surpass their limits in an ever-changing world. They would like to encourage anyone to take risks, to step out of their comfort zones and challenge the existing.
