The

CoCT
HAVE to listen to the
PAAC, (they
don’t have to action our suggestions)
Meant
to assist and co-operate in finding best solutions
to issues - escalation
first to the Mayor office then directly to the Minister.Slide8
PAAC history and
Sustainability of FoZR
This year so far the PAAC has been busy with various issues including
CFWWTW and its smells
Water quality & Dredging of ZV
Staffing of the reserves
The minutes of the meetings are posted on zeekoevlei.co.za
http://www.zeekoevlei.co.za/minutes-of-meetings/
…………
But is it possible to keep performing these duties at this intensity – not like we are!
And … more work is needed
! ……..Slide9
Is FoZR sustainable in its current form?
What kind of work? Well this community WCLT effort, for a start …
But can we keep working as we are?

Income & Expenses
Its all about time and money – both of which are in short supply!Slide11
Financial PositionSlide12
Quo Vadis with FoZR?
Problems
Consists of Volunteers
Volunteers have full-time jobs & are busy Can’t take time off
FoZR loses momentum
Lack of continuity
Tea Room in the Past
Unsuccessful operator
Insufficient traffic into Rondevlei & tea room
No profit made - based on the old tea room MOUSlide13
False Bay Nature Reserve (FBNR)
Current Situation:
The Boma at Rondevlei is not being utilised
Management of False Bay Nature Reserve venues for hire becomes complicated & time-consuming
Lack of staff & after hours functions become particularly challenging
False Bay Nature Reserve Requirements:
Require a Community Conservation Liaison Officer (CCLO)Slide14
What a beautiful place to protectSlide15
Solution for FoZR & FBNR
Have 1 or 2 regular functionaries in place to:
Serve FoZR
Deliver a variety of walks, talks, Newsletters, and events
Provide a bridge between the reserves and the community
Provide support with external issues:
M
otivate for change
Assist with PAAC administration and matters arising
Raise Money
Also – in return pay for a CCLOSlide16
Solution:
Regular Income for FoZR officer(s) and eventually a CCLO
To Action: Phase 1
Secure the Tea room at
Rondevlei
MOU
Operator
Functions venueSlide17
Action: Phase 2
Secure the other FBNR venues in return for CCLO
FBNR HQ Hall

mplement management (operating on a profit share basis)
1 paid manager
1 paid intern
Run the operational side of
FoZR
and the venues
FoZR
Committee provides strategic thinkingSlide18
Advantage of a CCLO to FBNR
More cooperation from the community
Increase in environmental awareness amongst communities
Increase the number of people visiting FBNR
Puts the reserve on the map – awareness
Assistance in areas of community conservation Slide19
