Solves Customer Challenges

High cost of data loss - business is vulnerable

Backup process is inadequate, unreliable, inconsistent

Rapid data growth, rising access demands Need faster restores, faster backups Taking applications/users offline not acceptable Microsoft Exchange and SQL ServerCritical to businessVulnerable to disaster (fire, water, storm, system failure…)No offsite copiesRebuilding computers takes several hours, days Compliance, data securityUnencrypted backups expose sensitive information; costly ramifications if lost or stolen Limited IT resources and lean budgets – In these economic timesNeed robust protection without complexity and high price tag9/2/20105Slide6

Backups

Automatically detects desktops and laptops when they connect to the network

Least-recently backed-up systems have highest priority

File de-duplication maximizes use of backup storage

No need to read logs and write new scripts each day

No flawed restores which incorrectly return deleted, moved, or renamed files and folders

No need to perform weekly full backups

Emergency Recovery CD provides bare-metal recovery of servers, desktops, and laptops

High level of encryption AES 128/256

Multiple, redundant, independent sets of backup media

Simplified onsite/offsite rotationSlide8

n

days, available/used Media Set capacity, performance data, and much more; keeps you informed and in control.

Robust email notification

Notifies you of completed operations, media requests, and warnings.

Backup data encryption

Government certified AES-256 encryption of backup data offers added security.

Backs up Windows Server 2003/2008 and Windows XP/Vista/7 clients

Free iPhone app provides remote monitoring of multiple Retrospect servers.Slide12

New Technologies in Retrospect 8

Separate management console and engine components

The

Retrospect engine, which performs all backup and restore operations, starts automatically at system boot and runs in the background as a root UNIX process. A computer running the Retrospect engine is referred to as a Retrospect server. The Retrospect application (referred to as the Retrospect console), which runs in the user space, provides management and monitoring of the Retrospect engine.“Headless” backupsThe Retrospect console app doesn’t need to be running for backups to occur.Management of multiple Retrospect serversThe Retrospect console need not be installed on the same computer as the engine, and each console can connect to and manage multiple Retrospect engines.Multiple, simultaneous backup, copy, utility, and restore activitiesEach backup activity requires a unique destination

Restores can be performed from Media Sets that are in-use for backupsFor activities to run in succession, assign them to the same activity thread.Slide13

More New Technologies in Retrospect 8

Staged Backups: D2D2D, D2D2T, D2D2Anything

New Copy Media Set and Copy Backups scripts copy data from one or more Media Sets to another.

Retrospect’s Smart Incremental technology only copies files not already present on the destination Media Set, providing single-instance storage and file-level deduplication.Restores can be performed directly from any Media Set.Disk Media Sets with grooming (replace Removable Disk sets)Direct- and network-attached storage volumes can be pooled together into logical containers for backup data. Administrator-defined quotas on a per-volume basis allow media to be shared with other applications.Optional grooming feature culls old data from the media, reclaiming space when needed (or scheduled) to allow ongoing backups.Public/Private Key client discovery and authenticationClients with the matching private key are discovered and logged-in automatically.Customizable views/reports are everywhereSort, show/hide, reorganize, and save any list view.Slide14

Retrospect 8 Console ComponentsSlide15

New! Retrospect app for iPhone and iPod Touch allows you to log in one or more Retrospect 8 servers and easily monitor their backup and restore activities over a Wi-Fi or 3G network connection.

Connects via TCP/IP over a Wi-Fi or 3G network.

View all activities or filter to show only scheduled, waiting, running, or past activities. A dashboard view provides at-a-glance status for all monitored Retrospect servers. An activities view provides status icons and progress bars

for currently running activities. The details view provides full information on each activity,

including source, destination, files copied, time remaining,

and more.

The log view displays the complete Retrospect operations

log for each

activity.

Support coming for Retrospect 7.7 for Windows monitoring.
