Sun & Wind Energy 5/2008 SOLAR THERMAL 66 Flat-panel collectors from Spain are among those at the top of the listSpanish startup rm Astersa Aplicaciones solares oers collectors both as OEM products and as complete sets including its own drain back and thermosiphon systems. This year, Astersa presented its new Startup rm Astersa presented OEM collectors, thermosiphon and drain back systems at the SOLAR THERMAL coating and is also avail-able as a thermosiphon system. The rm currently focuses on Spain and Portugal but is reportedly also interested in South America and the US. This year, OCV plans to produce 8,000 m, a gure that will increase to 20,000 msoon when its new plant opens. The rm also manufactures complete systems that include third-party components and offers training courses for installers.China: expectations rise for collectorsJames Wang, president of China’s at-plate collector manufacturer Yasol Renewable Energy Co. Ltd., says that “at-plate collectors are easier to integrate in architecture than evacuated tubes.” He also says his company is focusing for the long-term on the market in large Chinese cities such as Shanghai, where the demand for design and high-quality collectors will grow along with the income of people living in these cities. Founded only in October 2007, Yasol Renewable Energy has its headquarters in Suzhou Industrial Park. Yasol plans to manufacture 200,000 m per year in the beginning. The blue-coated absorber sheets are from Germany, but everything else is from China. Yasol currently uses both copper and aluminium, but the rm believes that the share of aluminium collectors will grow. By the end of the year, the company expects to have c

ompleted its storage tank production plant. Wang says the goal is a service life of 15 to 25 years, far more than the three to ve years that most products available in China currently oer. Yasol also has a couple of new products on its to-do list for the next few years. At the end of 2009, a double-glazed collector is expected to go on sale, and work is also being done on a PV/thermal hybrid collector. The enterprise already has an ofce in Munich, and logistics centers in Munich and Madrid are also on the drawing board. This year, some 70% of production will be exported to Europe, a gure that will drop to around hal

f in 2009 and down to only 30% by 2010. The rm is still looking for distributors. Yasol also oers its collectors as OEM products. The two largest Chinese at-plate collector manufacturers, Guangdong Fivestar Solar Energy Co., Ltd of Dongguan and Innosolar Energy Co., Ltd of Jindu, have come up with special collector models for the European market. The companies produce n absorbers welded with ultrasound. For export models, both use black chrome absorber layers as well as blue spluttering coatings. In addition to n absorbers welded with ultrasound,Tianke Energy-Saving Equipment Manufacture Co., Ltd. of Lianzhou also manufactures full-surface absorbers and coats with both black chrome and black paint.Flat-plate collectors from other parts of the worldAustrian construction rm Wacker Neuson has entered the industrial production of OEM collectors. In June 2007, CEO Hans Neunteufel founded Sunwin Energy Systems GmbH as an independent company. The current Executive Director of this start-up rm is Sales Director Klaus Fürlinger, who left Austrian competitor Sunmaster to join Sunwin. “We purchase absorbers from Prime Laser Tech of Greece and use them to make in-roof wooden frame collectors,” Fürlinger reports. “In the long term, we also plan to manufacture our own laser-welded aluminium absorbers.” The product range also includes third-party aluminium basin collectors. The prototype of the collector with a plastic basin to be made in-house was, however, already exhibited at Intersolar. Sunwin is looking for OEM customers at home and abroad with its sales sta of six.Austria’s Riposol GmbH is now making two new types of at-plate collectors: the AK 2300 and the AK 2600. B

oth of them have little in common with their predecessors. They have full-surface absorbers in deep basins and can be installed both in and on roofs. The laser-welded aluminium absorbers are made in-house. And there is something new about the company itself – it is independent again. In February, Executive Director David Klemen bought the company back from Conergy AG, which had taken it over two and a half years earlier.“We have made some practical and visual improvements to a few details in our new thermosiphon systems,” reports Williams Danger, founder and head of French rm Sun Ray based in New Caledonia, an archipelago northeast of Australia. His company manufactures six sizes of further developed thermosiphon systems: from 104 L with a single collector to 608 L with four collec Europe´s First SOLAR Air Vent· PURG-O-MAT 150 with Stainless- · SOLAR Micro-Bubbles-Air-SeperatorVoss Entlüftungs-Armaturen GmbHTulpenweg 2 · D-25524 Itzehoe · Telefon: 0049 (0)48 21 - 4 14 09Fax: 4 10 14 · www.purgomat.de · info@purgomat.de · · · P P P P P P P S · S · · · S S S S M M M M V oss V Sunwin Sales Manager Klaus Fürlinger shows o his new collectors at Intersolar. Here, cold water is not fed directly into the collector as usual, but rst into the tank. A second line takes water from the tank to the collector. Williams says that this arrangement improves thermal circulation between the collector and the tank. Furthermore, the tank on the installation system can be turned so that the tank’s cold water nozzle faces the cold water line, reducing the length of copper lines. Since April, Sun Ray has also been independent of its supplier of many years, Edwards of Australia. The rm sells its systems in French overseas departments via French energy supplier Tenesol and has just founded an independent subsidiary in Morocco to supply to the North African market.Greek rm Nobel Xlininakis D. & Co of Aharnes is currently working on a full aluminium collector with an aluminium tube register, as executive director Dimitra Xilinakis explains. Currently, Nobel makes collectors both with copper absorbers welded with ultrasound and aluminium absorbers that are laser-welded. At the moment, Nobel generates 30% of its revenue from exports. This share should increase, however, as should the share of OEM sales. In two years, a new robot-supported plant will be completed, which will ramp up production capacity far above the current level of 300 collectors per day. At Intersolar, the company also presented its Apollon thermosiphon system for the rst time (see S&WEFor the past three months,Solimpeks Solar Energy Systems Co. of Karatay, Turkey, has been using full-surface absorbers in its new collectors. The “F” in the product name CLS-F indicates such. The company also u

The company says it produces some 40,000 collectors roughly equivalent to 80,000 m each year. Up to now, they have mainly been sold to customers in Italy and Spain, but Germany and Great Britain are emerging markets. The company’s product range also includes evacuated tube collectors and installation systems for PV arrays.Collectors for CSP systemsSwitzerland’s AMK-Solac Systems AG of Sevelen has developed a concentrated solar power system (CSP system) that does without an evacuated receiver. To get temperatures up to 400 °C, AMK has increased the concentration factor. One advantage of the receiver is that it consists of a seamless tube. Unlike evacuated receivers, it does not have any connections, so that the absorber layer is never interrupted. ough collectors are. A 1 MWtest facility will soon be built in the Middle East. There will be a storage tank for the heated thermal oil so that power can be generated at peak times in the evening.Chinese evacuated tube specialist Bejing Sunda Solar Energy Technology Co., Ltd. has come up with Seido 6, a receiver tube for CSP collectors. The 2 m long, 100 mm thick glass tube has a selectively coated steel absorber with a diameter of either 38 or 63 mm. Solar absorption is 0.92. Thermal emission ranges from 0.08 at 80 °C to 0.15 at 300 °C. 300 °C is currently the maximum operating temperature. The company plans to use the tube in CSP collectors for solar cooling. Sunda is also further developing the product so that it can be used at temperatures up to 400 °C, which would make it interesting for power production. “A number of companies are very interested in our tubes. We will now improve them and try to launch production this year,” Sunda’s Wang Ling says. The number of providers of at-plate collectors is growing. Indeed, the entire solar thermal sector is on the move. It is becoming a proper industry as we move closer to a standard collector. But we still nd a wide variety of niche products with a broad range of dierent technologies.Eva AugstenFurther information:www.amk-solac.comwww.astersa.netcitrin-solar.leicht.info/www.vestarpower.comwww.hucusolar.comwww.innosolar.cnwww.nepsolar.eswww.nobel.grwww.ocv.eswww.puren.com/produkte/solar-energie/bomatherm/www.riposol.atwww.selasolar.comwww.sol-century.euwww.solimpeks.comwww.sun-ray.frwww. sunwin-energy.comwww.yasol.cnConcentrated solar power: Sunda presents a new receiver for parabolic trough collectors.Photo: Wilhelm Breuer
