Impressed by the introduction of chess as a subject in “Eurostandart” high school the influential German radio DW sent a special reporter to provide a story about this innovative and exciting initiative.Slide4

Realization of experimental project with children from the schools, based in the area of Poduene (part of Sofia Municipality). Slide5

After this project Sofia Municipality decided to be a partner of the Bulgarian Chess Federation about the implementation of the Chess in school project in the schools in Sofia during the school year 2013/2014. The Municipality will provide the funding of the project. Slide6

The President of ECU and BChF Silvio Danailov officially opened the first school chess year in the town of Slivnitsa, Bulgaria. The official ceremony was held on 26th of October, 2012 at the school “St.st.Cyril and Methodius”.Slide7

The Famous German TV Channel ZDF made a big report about the ECU’s Chess in School program in the town of Slivnitsa, Bulgaria.Slide8

On October 25, 2012 The European Chess Union and So Independent Film Festival jointly presented the movie “Bobby Fischer against the world”, dedicated to life and chess career of one of the greatest chess players for all times Robert James Fischer. Slide9

At the invitation of President of the European Chess Union Silvio Danailov the premiere was attended by the Nobel prize winner in economics Professor Robert Mundell, worldwide known as the “father of the Euro”, the President of FIDE, Mr. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, the Mayor of Sofia, Mrs. Yordanka Fandakova, Mr. Alvaro Ballarin, counselor for cultural affairs of the district of Moncloa, Madrid.Other guests of the movie premiere were: the US Ambassador to the Republic of Bulgaria Her Excellency Marcie Ries, Justin Szlasa, producer of the movie “Side by Side” with Keanu Reeves, Loren Hammonds from Robert de Niro’s film festival Tribeca, Mubashir Mohi-ud-din, composer “Valley of Saints” and others.Slide10

The event was held under the high patronage of the Director General of UNESCO, Mrs. Irina Bokova. Slide11

The premiere of the film Bobby Fischer against the world was very important promotional part of the ‘Chess in School’ program of the European Chess Union, because the Seventh Art is one of the most influential and natural ways for dialogue with the youngsters. Slide12

On 15th of April, 2013 the Bulgarian national chess champion U12 Matej Petkov played chess against the computer system of IBM Pure Flex Systems on the board of IBM System Technology Truck (STG Truck). Slide13

The event was attended by the CEO of IBM Bulgaria Kalin Dimtchev and many international guest and journalists. The Bulgarian Chess Federation used this event for promotion of the Chess in school project in Bulgaria. Slide14

Now IBM Bulgaria is a strong partner of the Bulgarian Chess Federation concerning the implementation of the Chess in School project. One of the most interesting possibilities for this partnership is the so called cloud computing. Slide15

On 22nd of May, 2012 the first school chess year in Slivnitsa was officially closed. Special guest of the event was the world class grandmaster Kiril Georgiev. Slide16

The young students were greeted with official letter by the ECU President Silvio Danailov. All of them received diplomas and gifts. Slide17
