1. Camera tube procurement follow-up~80 cameras equipped with Vidicon - XQ1293SF - Perkin Elmer - Not produced anymoreReplacement found on the shelf: Plumbicon - XQ1072N - Nimaging / Argus Imaging, Inc.“We have about of 450 tubes in stock that will need to be tested and there will be somefallout so I am estimating we will have about 300 or so tubes available”End of 2014, we first bought 10 pieces for test (see next slide) July 2015, we bought 53 pieces (~125KCHF) -> can run at least 3 yearsReceived end of August, currently testedDedicated test bench black box with optical target / uniform lightone set of camera/camera lens/electronics usedWarming up timing >15 minutes (stability)Amplitude / contrast measurementsXQ1072N seems 2 to 3 time more sensitive (difficult to compare since our XQ1293SF are ageing…)Up to now 40 tubes have been tested. All OK.It is foreseen to look for a dedicated storage (as for PMT)It is foreseen to prepare a bench to ‘fire’ them every 3 to 6 months to prevent from vacuum degradationS.Burger BI-PM 2015_09_24XQ1293SFXQ1072N

2. XQ1072N operation in the machinesNo ‘big’ change. No issue (yet) on an expected browning effect on the face plate that would lower the sensitivity.2015_01_152015_09_235 of these new tubes have been installed for testing before ordering:FT16.BTV388 (in front of dump D3 – TT2)FTA.BTV9003 (after kick to AD line)PE.BTV16 (in front of septum 16 – PS)BTV610352 (TT60)F61N.BTV02 (in front of Multi target station in primary zone of East Area)Between 0.3 and 1.7MRad / yearExample: PE.BTV16S.Burger BI-PM 2015_09_24

3. What after XQ1072N ?Contact with MIRION (UK + France)Chalnicon tubeFrom HamamatsuFocussing/Deflection type are magneticComparison with VIDICON one:2/3” / 1” for VidiconLifetime 6000 hours / 2000 for VidiconIntegrated dose 1e8Rad as for VidiconDose rate 10KRad/h vs 3MRad/h for VidiconTo be tested !! They normally don’t send the tube alone. Only for replacement if you bought their camera. May agree on a deal with us for a fixed amount (10 to 20 tubes/year for 5 to 10 years ??)Fixed price 6700 euros whatever quantity…   We are now (from last Tuesday) in direct contact with the BE in UK to search for a technical solution to make this tube work on our camera head + driver. To be continued…S.Burger BI-PM 2015_09_24
