1. Collecting liver samples from suspected rabbit calicivirus (RHDV) casesTypical posture of a rabbit that died from RHDV: No outward signs of disease or injury Lying on side with legs stretched out and head tilted backwards1. Locate liver2. Remove part of a liver lobe

2. The tube should not flow over when you add the sample:4. Label tube with Sample name Location, State Date3. Cut off a small piece of liver tissue into pre-filled containerThe liquid in the collection vials is RNALater, non flammable and non-hazardous. Please refer to label below. Samples collected into formalin are not suitable for testing.Clean scissors thoroughly between samples if sampling more than one rabbit (soak in 10% bleach, rinse thoroughly, and wipe).Only one liver sample PER rabbit is required for testing.Once in the fixative the sample is stable at room temperature. It does not need to be refrigerated during transport.*NB: Any unused RNALater tubes can be stored at room temperature until needed again. 5.
