Slide6ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION HOMOLOGUS (AIH)
The seminal fluid used for AIH is collected from woman’s husband.
Semen of husband is artificially inseminated in case :
a) He is impotent but fertile.
b)
Epispadias

Hypospadias
.

It is a malformation of penis in which the urethra ends in an opening on the upper aspect of the penis.

It is a medical condition where the urethral opening is not on the tip of the penis but is on the underside of the penis

The seminal fluid used for AID is collected from a donor.

ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION HOMOLOGOUS DONOR (AIHD)
A mixture of husband’s semen as well as that of a donor is used in AIHD
AIHD IS done in cases where
a) Husband sterile
b)RH incompatibility
Slide11The advantage of this method is that the husband and the wife would be assured that the husband’s spermatozoa was used. And thus the child might have been the product of the husband.
Slide12PSYCOLOGICAL ASPECTS:
Husband may feel humiliated as he is unable of procreation.
If child born is unhealthy physically or mentally husband is held responsible.
Mother may become neurotic as the child belongs to her alone and has no relation with her husband.
Slide13Mother may develop obsession to know the donor.
She may also have desire to have another child from the donor
Child may suffer from mental trauma when he comes to know about the method of birth.

Doctor prescribes fertility drugs to increase chances success. These drugs stimulates the ovaries to produce multiple eggs for the insemination
Fertility drugs may cause a number of IUI side effects including:
Hot flashes
Mood swings and depression
Nausea, headaches or visual disturbances.

The following precautions are taken only when AID is practiced:
consent of both spouses are essential.
Identity should not be revealed.
Donor must be below the age of 40.
Donor must be healthy both physically and mentally.

Female attendant should be present during the procedure.
Doctor who administers AI should avoid delivering the child.
