Flow of Energy Unit 2 7.5A: Photosynthesis: Transcript

The word photosynthesis can be broken down to its Greek origin Synthesis put together to form something new and Photo light The most important aspect of photosynthesis is that . Autotrophs. :. Organisms that are capable of producing/creating their own food. Photoautotrophs. – sunlight drives the energy production process. Chemoautotrophs. – can extract energy from an inorganic substance. Photosynthesis. OB48. Describe, using a word equation, how plants make their own food through photosynthesis.  . OB49. Show that starch is produced by a photosynthesising plant.  . OB50. Investigate the growth response of plants to . Energy . and Life. Plants and some other types of organisms are able to use light energy from the sun to produce food.. Autotrophs. : organisms such as plants, which make their own food. Heterotrophs. Leaf Disc Assay. F Block. Photosynthesis Lab. . An Educational Slide Created By Squade. . (Andy, Alex, Colin, Jordyn). Summary of Findings . In this lab, the effects of plant photosynthesis were investigated by comparing the rates of photosynthesis of two plants, spinach and kale. The rate of photosynthesis was measured the number of leaf cutouts on the surface per minute. These floating leaf cutouts show that oxygen, a product of photosynthesis is produced. We found that the rate of photosynthesis for the spinach leaves was 8.6 cutouts per minutes, 1.4 less than that of the kale leaves (10 cutouts per minute.) This difference could be a result the different amounts of light absorbing chlorophyll present in each leaf, or a difference in vascular tissue sizes, which may affect the plant’s ability to absorb water for photosynthesis.. Unit 3 . Think back to Energy Transfer…. Living things use energy for . Growth. Repair. Reproduction. Metabolism. The collection of reactions that occur in a cell . Metabolism. Involves either:. . November 17, 2009. A ___________ is a group of different species that live together in one area.. Community. Population. Organism. Ecosystem. Biome. O. 2 . represents. Glucose. Energy. Carbon dioxide. And Respiration of Plants. By: Annette Miles. Photosynthesis is a process by which plants turn energy from the ____ into _______ or _______________. . sun. glucose. carbohydrates. First, _______________ strikes the leaf, passes into the leaf, and hits a ______________ inside an individual cell. . Chapter . 10. : Photosynthesis. From Topic . 2.9. Essential idea: . Photosynthesis uses the energy in sunlight to produce the chemical energy needed for life. .. Nature of science: . Experimental design—controlling relevant variables in photosynthesis experiments is essential (3.1).. Refer to . pg. . 83-92 . in . Holtzclaw. , . Ch. 10 in Campbell and media resources. . Refer . to . pg. . 297. -299 . in . Holtzclaw. , Lab . Inv. 5 . in . Lab Manual. Try This!. Where does the biomass of a tree primarily come from?. Photosynthesis. Photosynthesis. is the process by which plants, some . bacteria use . the energy from sunlight to produce sugar and starches ……which . cellular respiration. converts into . ATP. Photosynthesis. - a process used by plants and other autotrophs to convert the light energy captured from the sun into chemical energy that can be used to fuel the organism’s activities. . *It is the way plants make food! . Chemical Energy and ATP. Energy is the ability to do work.. Your cells are busy using energy to build new molecules, contract muscles, and carry out active transport.. Without the ability to obtain and use energy, life would cease to exist.. Autotrophs. – organisms use can make their own food. Some. autotrophs capture light energy from the sun in the process of photosynthesis. Heterotrophs. – obtain energy from the foods they consume. Cellular Respiration:. During the respiration reaction glucose bonds are broken and the carbon is released to form CO2. . (Use the NAMES of the molecules) According to your equation, the process of cellular respiration uses ____________________ and ___________________ to produce ________________________, ___________________ and release ____________________..
