3:12-19Slide4

Matthew 26:26-29

26

And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke

it,

and gave

it

to the disciples and said, "Take, eat; this is My body."

27

Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave

it

to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you.

28

For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

29

But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father's kingdom." Slide5

John 14:2

2

In My Father's house are many mansions; if

it were

not

so,

I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. Slide6

As Christians we have the responsibilities to execute discipline in the church, in order to keep it healthy.

If we do not keep the church healthy, people outside wont do it.

The responsibility to see after the affairs of the congregation here in Calgary is for all us, men and women.

What are we doing, that is, you and I, to keep the habits from the Bible active here in the church.

Let’s study 4 habits this morning, of how keep the church here at Northside healthy!Slide8

1 Thessalonians 5:14 14  Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all.

To call someone along side.

To take a brother aside

From the Greek word

parakaleo

Paul has been exhorting the brethren in many ways and he will do it this morning gain.Slide9

Admonish

Admonish

the Disorderly

Out

of step in

doctrine – 1 Tim 6:3-5

Out

of step in morality

– 1 Cor. 5:11

Out

of step in priorities

– Matt

6:33; Col. 1:18

Out

of step in obedience

– Heb

. 3:12-19

1 Timothy 6:3-5

If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which accords with godliness, 4  he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions, 5  useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw yourself.

1 Corinthians 5:11 11  But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner--not even to eat with such a person.

Colossians 1:18 18  And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

Hebrews

3:12-13

12

 Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God;

13

but exhort one another daily, while it is called

"Today,"

lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. Slide12

Admonish the DisorderlyEvery

member has

responsibility for the health of the church

To

put in

mind:

where they were, where they are, where they’re going

Goal

:

Bring

back “into step” with God’s

way – Gal. 6:1

Galatians 6:1

1

Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who

are

spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. Slide13

Encourage the FaintheartedSlide14

Encourage the Fainthearted

Encourage (beside + soothing speak)

=

comfort, console

Fainthearted (little + soul) = lit. little-souled = lose heart

 quit

Losing heart because

of life’s trials and

circumstances – 1 Pet.

1:6

Losing heart because

of

people

2

Cor. 2:3

Losing heart because

of the enemy – 1 Thess. 2:181 Peter 1:6 6  In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, 2 Corinthians 2:3 3  And I wrote this very thing to you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow over those from whom I ought to have joy, having confidence in you all that my joy is the joy of you all.

1 Thessalonians 2:18 18  Therefore we wanted to come to you--even I, Paul, time and again--but Satan hindered us. Slide15

Encourage the Fainthearted

Every

member has responsibility for the health of the church

To

call alongside and speak words of

encouragement, pointing to God

Goal

:

Lift spirits, help to see promises of God – 1 Thess. 2:11-12

1 Thessalonians 2:11-12

11

as you know how we exhorted, and comforted, and charged every one of you, as a father

does

his own children,

12

that you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory. Slide16

Uphold the WeakSlide17

Uphold the Weak

Uphold

= to cling to, to hold on firmly to, to help

Weak (not + strong) = without strength (spiritually)

Weak

because babes in Christ – Heb. 5:12-14

Weak

because starved for truth – 1 Pet. 2:2

Weak

because untaught – Rom. 10:17

Weak

because neglecting personal study – 2 Tim. 2:15

Weak

because faith

is

attacked/challenged

– Gal. 5:7-9

Hebrews 5:12

12  For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food.

1 Peter 2:2 2  as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,

Romans 10:17 17  So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. 2 Timothy 2:1515

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Galatians

5:7-9

7

You ran well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth?

8

 This persuasion does not

come

from Him who calls you.

9

A little leaven leavens the whole lump. Slide18

Uphold the WeakEvery member has responsibility for the health of the church

Teach

them and carry faith with them

– Rom.

15:1

Goal

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

Jude 1:20

20

But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, Slide19

Be Patient with AllSlide20

Be Patient with All

Patient (long + anger/temper) = longsuffering, holding temper

All persons, at some point, need others to be patientSlide21

Be Patient with All

Every

member has

responsibility – 1 Cor. 13:4; Eph. 4:2

Be

longsuffering with the stubborn & rebellious

Be

longsuffering with the weak & wayward

Be

longsuffering with the

imperfect & “not-like-you” people

Be

longsuffering with the

teachers

& the preachers

Be

longsuffering with your husband or your wife

Be

longsuffering with your parents and/or your childrenGoal

 Love suffers long

and

is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;

Ephesians 4:2

2

with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love,

Matthew 7:12 (NKJV)

12

Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. Slide22
