Fine Arts Program rated RecognizedLongoria Elementary offers 2 Programs (Fine ARTS and Music) and offers two programs (outside the school day) year round including Honors Choir and Folklorico Dance. Performances for the 2015-16 school include Christmas Caroling, Charro Days Performances, Singing for Christmas Posada and other performances. Teachers are supported with appropriate classrooms and are encouraged to attend professional Development in this area. Longoria ES

Students in the first picture participated in a Christmas Performance at Longoria ES and at Sunrise Mall (2

nd pic.). In the third picture 3rd

through 5th grade students from the Folklorico Extended Day Program performed during a Charro Days festival at Longoria ES. Slide3

Wellness Program rated ExemplaryCampus faculty, staff, and students participate in and host various wellness activities such as Blood Drives, CPR Training, Cancer Awareness, Bike Rodeo, and canned food Drive. BISD Wellness activities include Track and Field and Jump Rope for Heart and PE Presentation at Veteran’s High School.Longoria ESLongoria hosted a Bike Rodeo in which the community participated as they brought their bicycles for a check up. th grade students participating in the BISD PE Demonstration night at Veteran’s HS.Longoria students, faculty and staff participated in the “Vive

Tu Vida” Wellness Event sponsored by the city of Brownsville on October 22, 2016.Slide4

Community and Parental Involvement rated RecognizedAt Longoria ES parents participate in meetings relevant to District Programs and Services and State expectations in preparing for assessments. In the 2015-16 school year the campus hosted community projects such as Food Canned Drives, Blood Drives, and a Cancer Awareness Walk. Parents and the community were also invited to the campus for the Longoria “Parade of Characters.”Longoria ESMembers of the community and two other elementariness were invited to a Blood Drive sponsored by Longoria ES.

Longoria ES also hosted a CPR Training for any BISD employee.Parents and the community participated in the Longoria “Parade of Characters.”Slide5

21st Century Workforce Development rated ExemplaryStudents at Longoria ES participated in career exploration / university exploration activities and had different opportunities to interact with professionals. Students also participated in Career Day events.Longoria ESLady of the Lake University Dean visited Longoria ES and presented to Pre-Kinder through 5

th grade students.Other professionals that visited Longoria include a Police Officer, a Professional Fighter, and Judge Elia

Cornejo (last picture shown). Slide6

Second Language Acquisition rated ExemplaryAll students were provided with cultural awareness experiences such as Dia De Los Muertos, Christmas, Easter, Black Heritage Month, Charro Days and other experiences.Intervention plans for ELL students are kept and monitored by school administrators as teachers receive 12 hours of professional development in sheltered instruction.

Longoria ESIn the first picture 4th grade teachers presented a lesson on “

Dia De Los

Muertos” in which students participate by providing a Eulogy of a loved one.Students experienced a Christmas Tamalada as they prepared tamales for their parents and community.Students participate in a Easter Egg Hunt.Slide7

Digital Learning Environment rated ExemplaryThe campus supports having a Digital Learning Environment. Faculty completes professional development with technology as a tool to assist student learning but not limited to training on technology. Campus resources are aimed at supporting technology integration instruction. Digital Learning is supported between students, teachers and parents. Digital Citizenship training was provided for students, parents and teachers.Longoria ESStudents in the first picture viewed a video in the computer lab as the counselor and computer lab teacher presented on citizenship and cyberbullying. In the second picture parents received information on “the internet” and “cyberbullying” from the school counselor.Slide8

Dropout Preventions Strategies rated RecognizedAt least 80% of at-risk students participated in accelerated instruction after school in which accelerated instruction is provided. Attendance rate for students are monitored by administrators and are based on PEIMS at-risk attendance report. Longoria ESStudents in 5th

grade receive accelerated instruction during after school tutorials.Slide9

Educational Programs for G/T rated RecognizedLongoria ES offers a Gifted and Talented Program in which kinder through 5th grade students have an opportunity to be nominated.Current GT identified students participated in showcase opportunities and are assigned with teachers that received the required on-going GT training and core hours. Longoria ES

GT Students participated in Science Fair and are part of the Longoria Chess Team.
