The OMeBa Tool Longitudinal analyses allowed by the OCI data

PEC Workshop – The OCI Tracker: investigating online behaviour and digital consumption

28

th June 2019, Nesta

Slide2

OMeBaWe aim to develop an innovative data tool which allows you to explore how online consumer

behaviour has evolved year by year since 2013. OCI surveys: findings on levels of copyright infringement are largely reconstructed from data on online consumer behaviour in general. In order to allow longitudinal comparisons,

OMeBa will interrogate data from wave 4 (2013) onwards, as these were conducted in the same quarter of the year (March-May).Challenges:Questions added/amended/removed over time

Variables added/amended/removed over timeQuestions/variables have remained the same but their IDs have changed

Spreadsheet offering harmonised question IDs for the data from waves 4-8 of the OCI surveys.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with each of the following statements? Please note, by ‘content’ we mean music, film, books, computer software, and TV files.Answers have remained the same from wave 4 (2013) to wave 8 (2018)

I think that you should be able to download or access the content you want for free from the internetIt is easy to find content on the internet for free that would usually be paid for

Content that you download or access online should be cheaper than the equivalent purchased in a physical format (e.g. a CD; DVD; Blu-ray; or VHS)

If you had paid for a digital file you should then be able to share it with othersThe rules governing what you can and can't do with content you purchase should be the same for both physical (e.g. a CD; DVD; Blu-ray; or VHS) and online formats

It is wrong to access content online without the creators\artists permissionThe price that you pay to download or access content online is generally about rightI find it difficult to find legal content online
