Contract No. 2002-0092 Improvement Works at Lo Wu Station Platform 1-3, Link Bridge and Concourse Extension CLIENT Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) Engineer Meinhardt (Hong Kong) Ltd. CONTRACTOR Kier-Leader Joint Venture CONTRACT VALUE HK$ 124 million CONTRUCTION PERIOD November 2002 to July 2004 The works are located at the KCRC Lo Wu Station. Major works included: Construction of a concourse extension over the existing track including piled foundation, structural steel super-structure, associated Mechanical & Electrical, and architectural works with a total floor area of 3700m. Construction of a link bridge to connect the concourse extension with the existing Platform 1. Widening of Platform 2 with awning next to the existing Track No.1 in operation. Extension to the existing Platforms 2 and 3 including foundation, super-structure, and associated Mechanical & Electrical, and architectural works. Dismantle and demolition works to the existing escalator next to Platform 2. Construction of a lift shaft 2 escalator troughs and a staircase to connect the link bridge to platform1. ng mini piles with 273mm diameter to support the Concourse Extension of the Lo Wu Station and the Link Bridge linking the Concourse Extension to the existing Platform 1. The length of the piles constructed ranging from 20m to 40m with 5m long socket into Grade III rock. The piling works also included the Pre-Drilling prior to the commencement of the piling works to determine the rock head level and the target founding level. It also included the Proof Drilling subsequent to the completion of the pile installations. As all the works have to be carried out immediately next to the live railway tracks and inside the busy Lo Wu Station in full operation, the Contractor has to undertake all the necessary safety measures and arrangement, including the following; carry out some of the Works at night time after the close down of the train service provision of substantial fence, barriers and working platform to segregate the working area and the train service Implement the necessary safe working procedures such as look out man etc. to ensure that the train service and the operation of the Lo Wu Station will not be affected by the construction works.
