These fun and fashionablekoozies keep your cans andbottles cool -- perfect for anybackyard barbecue orbonfire. Supplies Needed:8" by 8" piece of sturdy cotton fabric like denim, lightweight canvas, or twill (for front -- I usedlightweight Small pieces of print cotton fabric (for sides and back -- used twill)12" wide by 6" high piece of cotton batting (for lining)Supplies Continued:Medium weight cutaway stabilizerTemporary spray adhesiveAir-erase pen or dressmaker's pencil (for marking and placement)8" length of 1/4" wide elastic (for button loops)2 large buttons (mine are 7/8") Buttoned-Up Beverage Kooziefile:///F|/Source/ELProjects/html/PR1963.html[5/19/2015 2:37:54 PM] needle and thread Design Used:For my koozie, I used the small size of the Enjoy Every Sunset design. Findthe perfect design for your koozie by visiting the Summer Lovin'Special Project Notes:This koozie works great on both cans and bottles!Finished Size (when folded):9 3/4" wide x 4 1/4" high (when laying flat) To get started, prepare thefabric for the front of thekoozie. With an air-erase pen,draw a 5 1/2" wide by 5" highrectangle on the fabric.Measure and mark the centerof each side by measuring anddividing by two. Draw linesconnecting the marks. Create a paper template of thedesign using embroiderysoftware. f you haven't usedsoftware to make templatesbefore, these handy instructionswill show you how.Poke a hole in the center of thetemplate and align it with thecenter point on the fabric. Makesure the design fits well withinthe shape -- there should be atleast 1/2" of space in betweenthe outer edges of the designand the edges of the shape.Remove the template andspray a piece of mediumweight cutaway stabilizer withtemporary adhesive. Smooththe fabric on top and hoop thefabric and stabilizer together by Buttoned-Up Beverage Kooziefile:///F|/Source/ELProjects/html/PR1963.html[5/19/2015 2:37:54 PM] aligning the marks on the hoopwith the lines on the fabric. Attach the hoop to the machineand move the hoop so that theneedle is aligned with thecenter point on the fabric.Embroider the design. When the design has finished,trim away the excess stabilizeron the backside of theembroidery and cut out theTo prepare the fabric for thefront side of the koozie, cutone piece of the print fabric to3 1/2" wide by 5" high (for theright side) and one piece to 3"wide by 5" high (for the leftLay the embroidered piece flatwith the right side facing up.Align the right and left side Buttoned-Up Beverage Kooziefile:///F|/Source/ELProjects/html/PR1963.html[5/19/2015 2:37:54 PM] pieces on top with the rightsides together. The outer sideedges of the side pieces will bealigned with the side edges ofthe front piece.Pin in place and sew a 1/4" seam along each side edge only. Press the back seamsopen with an iron and top stitch a 1/8" seam along each side of the seams of theassembled front piece. To create the elastic buttonloops, cut two 4" lengths of 1/4"wide elastic. Form the elasticinto loops and stitch the endsin place with a few stitches. To prepare the inner lining andback fabric, lay the assembledfront piece on top of the printfabric and the cotton batting,pin in place, and cut aroundthe shape of the front piece.Layer the pieces together:cotton batting first, align theback piece on top with theright side facing up, then thefront piece on top of the backpiece right side down. With the raw endsfacing out, the ends of theloops should extend out about1/4". Pin in place and sew a1/4" seam along the top,bottom, and right edge of thefabric only -- leave the leftedge open for turning. Turn the koozie right side outand press the seams. Also,turn the fabric of the opening in1/2", press, and pin in place.Top stitch a 1/8" seam aroundthe outer edges of the koozie. With needle and thread, sewthe buttons in place along theinner seam on the right side ofthe koozie (with the kooziefacing right side up). Place onebutton about 3/4" down fromthe top edge of the fabric andplace the other button about3/4" up from the bottom edgeof the fabric.
