Part 1 & Annex A Few significant changes – order changed to improve flow Link to the NSPCC Whistleblowing helpline updated – now 0800 028 0285Greater emphasis on serious violenceUpskirting became a criminal offence and is now in Annex A

Upskirting ‘ Upskirting ’ typically involves taking a picture under a person’s clothing without them knowing, with the intention of viewing their genitals or buttocks to obtain sexual gratification, or cause the victim humiliation, distress or alarm. It is now a criminal offenceThis may constitute sexual harassment

Other changes s128 checks for governors specifically required in maintained schools Associate governors do not require DBS New guidance on Teaching Online Safety in Schools

Action plan Update your safeguarding policies and other materials to reflect you are working to the September 2019 version Consider s128 checks on governors, mandatory if you are a maintained schoolEnsure your staff understand the seriousness of upskirting and take proper action if they suspect this has happened Ensure your staff have  read, understood and can apply Keeping Children Safe in Education 2019.
