General changes from September 2014An expectation that children will be taught as a group and move at roughly the same pace in their learningMany aspects of English and Maths have been moved to lower year groups An emphasis on “Spoken language” and learning poetry and passages by rote.

General changes from September 2014Old levels are no longer used to measure children’s progress and attainment. Schools have to find their own ways of showing pupil progress.Levels will remain until July 2015 for years 2 and 6.

Assessment for national testsEarly Years children are assessed on “Early Learning Goals” at the end of their reception year for GLD. Year 1 children take a “Phonic Screening Test” in June Year 2 children take end of Key Stage tests in reading and maths and have a teacher assessment for writing

Assessment for national tests (cont)Year 6 children take end of Key Stage 2 tests in reading, maths and scienceYear 6 teachers have to provide a teacher assessment level for every child– with evidence – in writing
