Erin & . Carley. Deserts cover one fifth of the earth’s land area. The biggest. Desert is northern Africa’s Sahara desert. It covers roughly. 3, 500,00 square miles. There are even deserts that are cold. . Chapter Seven. Most of the year the desert looks lifeless.. But when rainy season comes, the land explodes with life.. Plants and animals hurry to feed, grow and reproduce.. When the rain is done life seems to disappear again, until the next rainy season.. By Elisa Miller. Keystone College. Deserts. Types of Deserts:. Hot and . Dry. Cold Deserts. Gobi Desert in Asia. Desert . of . Antarctica. Locations. Cover 20% of the Earth’s land mass. Latitudes: . Chapter 7. Key Term. Rain Shadow Effect. . -. . An area having relatively little precipitation due to the effect of a barrier, such as a mountain range, that causes the prevailing winds to lose their moisture before reaching it.. . . introduction. Deserts are all over the world but not in Europe. Not all deserts are sandy. The Antarctica desert is the biggest ice desert in the world. The Sahara desert is the biggest sandy desert in the world.. Marshall . Plumley. Dmitriy. . Adamia. What is a Desert?. Deserts cover over 1/5 of Earth’s surface . Less than 50cm of precipitation annually. Some deserts receive less than 1.5cm . Very little/no vegetation. HOT . or . COLD. . But they are all very . DRY. . All deserts have more evaporation then rainfall.. Deserts cover 20-35% of the Earth’s land surface, and 25% of the world’s people.. ANTARCTICA is actually a large desert. Hot deserts and cold deserts. Ozlan.net. Before you can create any desert you have to understand how to make the foundation of the desert, this is the base,. The bases are divided into . Pastry which includes Puff Pasty, short sweet paste and choux . There are four major types of deserts. There are four major types of deserts . Hot and Dry. Semiarid.  Coastal. Cold. Semiarid. The summers are moderately long and dry, while the winters normally bring little rainfall. Summer temperatures usually average between 69-80° F.. Deserts Adiabatic Warming and Cooling Warm, moist air masses forced up and over mountains experience decreasing atmospheric pressure and, as a result, expand. This process causes the expanding air mass to release a portion of its latent heat, resulting in a decrease in air temperature. This is called adiabatic cooling. Depending on the height to which the air is forced the air mass temperature may drop below the dew point, resulting in the formation of water droplets and precipitation in the form of rain or snow. As a result, when the air mass reaches the summit, it is cold and dry. Crossing the summit, the air mass descends and compresses. This produces a corresponding increase in atmospheric pressure and, as descent continues, the compressing air mass begin to warm. This is a called adiabatic warming. However, because the moisture was released during the cooling stage, the descending air mass is warm and dry. If sufficient moisture is removed the descending air mass could be dry enough to create a rain shadow effect where precipitation is much lower than surrounding areas. In some cases a rain shadow desert can form. 2018 ECOLOGY (B&C) KAREN LANCOUR National Bio Rules Committee Chairman karenlancour@charter.net C. WHAT IS A DESERT?. A desert is an area that receives very little rain and is unable to support plant growth. Although many deserts are in hot regions, some of the world’s deserts can be extremely cold. Around one third of the Earth’s surface is covered in deserts. The original meaning of the word desert is “an abandoned place”.. Disusun Oleh . MUNA : A1A513065. NORBAITI : A1A413030. NOVI NORVAZIRAH : A1A513073. Geomorfologi dan Lingkungan (chapter 18).
