But when rainy season comes, the land explodes with life.. Plants and animals hurry to feed, grow and reproduce.. When the rain is done life seems to disappear again, until the next rainy season.. In 1962 he went to study in Cambridge. He was an incredible student. But one day in university, Hawking falls on the floor. He went to the doctors and there they told him he has a . Deserts Adiabatic Warming and Cooling Warm, moist air masses forced up and over mountains experience decreasing atmospheric pressure and, as a result, expand. This process causes the expanding air mass to release a portion of its latent heat, resulting in a decrease in air temperature. This is called adiabatic cooling. Depending on the height to which the air is forced the air mass temperature may drop below the dew point, resulting in the formation of water droplets and precipitation in the form of rain or snow. As a result, when the air mass reaches the summit, it is cold and dry. Crossing the summit, the air mass descends and compresses. This produces a corresponding increase in atmospheric pressure and, as descent continues, the compressing air mass begin to warm. This is a called adiabatic warming. However, because the moisture was released during the cooling stage, the descending air mass is warm and dry. If sufficient moisture is removed the descending air mass could be dry enough to create a rain shadow effect where precipitation is much lower than surrounding areas. In some cases a rain shadow desert can form. 2018 ECOLOGY (B&C) KAREN LANCOUR National Bio Rules Committee Chairman karenlancour@charter.net C. Biomes are large terrestrial regions characterized by similar climate, soil, plants, and animals, regardless of where they are found in the West Coast Outreach Manager. LEARNING ABOUT ECOSYSTEMS WITH ATP. WHAT IS A DESERT?. A desert is an area that receives very little rain and is unable to support plant growth. Although many deserts are in hot regions, some of the world’s deserts can be extremely cold. Around one third of the Earth’s surface is covered in deserts. The original meaning of the word desert is “an abandoned place”.. Disusun Oleh . MUNA : A1A513065. NORBAITI : A1A413030. NOVI NORVAZIRAH : A1A513073. Geomorfologi dan Lingkungan (chapter 18).
