Clear Liquid Diet

Purpose

For short-term use following an illness or surgery that causes an intolerance to foods

Ex: nausea, vomiting, diarrheaDescription Liquids you can SEE THROUGHSlide3

Liquids Allowed

Broth or

Boullion

soup (chicken, beef, vegetable) Flavored gelatin Fruit-flavored popsicles Tea (sweet or un-sweet) Clear

carbonated beverages (

i.e

sprite, gingerale) Apple, cranberry and grape juice (NOT orange juice) Italian ice Sugar Supplements: Resource Breeze, Diabetishield, Prosource Gelatin ONLYSlide4

Full Liquid Diet

Purpose

Post- operative transitional diet

Following oral surgery of the face and neck area in the presence of chewing or swallowing difficulties Description

Includes foods liquid at room temperature Slide5

Foods Allowed

Carbonated beverages

Coffee and tea (regular and decaffeinated) Cooked refined cereal (i.e. grits, cream of wheat, farina) Custard, plain gelatin, ice cream, sherbet, pudding, smooth yogurt (without fruit) Milk Fruit and vegetable juices

Broth, boullion or strained creamed soups

Butter, margarine, cream Supplements (i.e Boost Plus, Resource Breeze, Mighty Shake, etc) Any foods allowed on Clear Liquid diet are also allowed on Full Liquid diet but NOT vice versaSlide6

Description

(same as standard clear liquid diet)

Diet is

in sugar Does NOT allow carbonated beveragesSlide8

Liquids Allowed

Broth or Boullion soup (chicken, beef, vegetable)

Flavored sugar- free gelatin if ok’ed by MD Fruit-flavored sugar- free popsicles Decaffeinated coffee or tea Apple, cranberry and grape juice (diluted w/ 50% to decrease sugar content)

Unsweetened iced tea

SPLENDA Crystal Light Supplements: Diabetishield, Resource Breeze (diluted w/ 50% water)Slide9

Carbonated Beverages

Gatorade

Straws- cause people to drink more quickly, which results in increased swallowing of gas/airSlide10

Bariatric Full Liquid Diet

Description

Fluids you CANNOT see through

All items MUST be in liquid form

CANNOT have thickened items (i.e. pudding/applesauce)

Diet is LOW in sugar

ALL items allowed on Bariatric Clear Liquid diet

Soups strained to consistency of milk (e.g. cream of chicken/mushroom) Skim-milk due to lower fat content Sugar-free ice cream Sugar substitutes (Splenda, Sweet’n’Low) Supplements: Diabetishield, Sugar-Free Carnation Instant Breakfast, Boost Glucose Control, SF Prosource GelateinSlide12

Important to Know!

ALL bariatric patients who have advanced

beyond

Clear liquids (i.e. to full liquids, pureed diet, soft foods or a regular diet)

must get a SKIM MILK on ALL trays.This is help them to consume more proteinCan substitute for those who are lactose intolerant or those who report to not drink milkSlide13
