Congress passed more than 15 major pieces of New Deal legislation.

March 5, 1933, one day after Roosevelt took office, he declared a bank holiday and closed all the banks to prevent further withdrawals.

Persuaded Congress to pass the Emergency Banking Relief Act, which authorized the Treasury Department to inspect the country’s banks.
