Greece started when a bird laid an egg. From the egg came Eros, god of love. The top egg flew up and became Uranus, god of the sky. The bottom egg fell down and became Gaea, goddess, of the earth. Uranus and Gaea had many children. These were called Titans. The chief Titan was Cronus, his wife was Rhea. Cronus was hateful. He didn’t want any of his children to replace him as chief, so every time his wife gave birth, he swallowed the baby. But when Zeus was born, Rhea hid him from Cronus. Priest and priestesses to various gods would also guide people in worship in various temples across Greece. We know something about these beliefs because Greek poets such as Homer, Hesiod and Pindar, and Greek dramatists such as Euripides, Aristophanes & Sophocles mention the myths in their various works. .
