Persons born prior to 1940 can use a

numident

record issued by the SSA in lieu of a birth certificate. Veterans born prior to 1940 can use DD-214 discharge paper in lieu of a birth certificate.Persons who are at least 60 years old and have been licensed in Georgia 20+ years can use a numident record issued by the SSA in lieu of a birth certificate.Expired U.S. passport can be used as proof of identity provided it hasn’t been expired for more than 10 years. Documented Proof of Lawful Status (Non-U.S. citizens)No exceptions. Documented Proof of Social Security Number Persons not eligible for issuance of an SSN can provide a denial letter from the SSA.Documented Proof of Georgia ResidencyPersons can use address on license or ID card they are renewing as one proof of residency (provided the address is still current).Persons can use address they list on application for license or ID card as one proof of residency.Documented Proof of any Name ChangesBoard waiver.Persons who cannot comply with requirements that are based upon agency rules and regulations have the option of petitioning the DDS Board of Directors for a rule waiver. Based on 9/11 Commission Recommendations.49 U.S.C. §30301; 6 C.F.R. §37.01, et seq.Once effective, only state driver’s licenses deemed compliant will be accepted for federal purposes including:

Identification at airports.

Entering federal buildings.

23 states and the District of Columbia have been deemed compliant with the Act.24 states have been granted extensions by the DHS.3 states are non-compliant and have not been granted extensions by the DHS (Minnesota, Missouri, and Washington).

Georgia began issuing

REAL ID compliant

cards on July 1, 2012.Georgia was declared compliant by Department of Homeland Security on Dec. 20, 2012.Nearly 5.7 million of Georgia’s 8+ million cardholders have been “enrolled” and possess a REAL ID compliant card.Annually, DDS enrolls approximately 1 million customers.DDS anticipates that by mid-2017, over 90% of Georgia cardholders will possess a REAL ID compliant card.Slide8
