“You are Simon son of John; you shall be called Cephas (which translated means Peter).”Slide9

Big Idea of Luke 5:1-11

His competency

His identity

His calling Slide11

Departure to Follow Christ (5:11)Slide26

Application Thoughts

Note what Jesus is doing in this encounter. He frames the issue of submission right at Simon

s core competency. Jesus does not pose the issue of submission in any of the peripheral areas of Simon

s life, but addresses it at the one thing Simon knows best. Jesus knows that unless Simon submits and is broken at the one thing he knows and does best, he will never become Peter, the rock, dependent upon God for everything. Slide27

Application Thoughts

Is my core competency mine or His?

Has my core competency become my identity?

Is my core competency stopping me from following the Lord fully?

Is the Lord welcome in my work?Slide28

Application Thoughts

Is the Lord calling me to go fishing with Him in the deep during the day?Slide29
